Role overview
This Qatar-based Mechanical Engineering Specialist role supports mechanical engineering work across EPC and startup phases through to handover to the permanent asset team. The position is focused on ensuring that project outputs align with operations requirements for safety, operability, reliability, and maintainability throughout the facility life cycle.
The role also provides broad mechanical engineering input to support the division’s strategy and objectives, including design reviews, commissioning, startup, failure investigation, advanced troubleshooting, and preparation of work packs for maintenance-led modifications.
Key responsibilities
- Set out good practices within the discipline area and recommend ways to improve performance.
- Prepare plans and schedules that support timely completion of tasks and help achieve section and division KPIs.
- Contribute specialist technical input to other disciplines and functions when needed to support business goals.
- Oversee and monitor the work of contractors, consultants, and service providers.
- Support junior engineers in applying the company’s integrity and reliability systems.
- Help ensure project tie-in activities are completed smoothly for all systems under your scope.
- Manage the issue register, track critical matters, and resolve concerns such as emerging technology risks that could affect reliability and availability.
- Provide technical support for Management of Change activities for assigned operations assets and help deliver timely solutions that protect asset integrity and reliability.
- Take part in Safety Workshops, Cold Eye Reviews, and Value Improvement Workshops.
- Lead and contribute to Root Cause Failure Analysis, scenario-based risk assessments, risk screening, and Formal Risk Assessments.
Qualifications and experience
The role requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering or an equivalent qualification, along with 8 years of experience in an oil and gas environment. Candidates should already have reached specialist-level competency in line with Mechanical Technical Competencies.
Technical and business skills
Applicants must be able to make decisions and remain effective under high-pressure conditions. Strong written and spoken English is essential, along with leadership and people management ability. Good computer literacy is also required, including regular use of professional office software and technical applications.
