Role overview
This position places you on the West Apron Vehicle Underpass project at Dublin Airport, where you will support night-time construction delivery in a live operational environment. The role centres on planning, overseeing and technically coordinating work carried out overnight, while keeping the project safe, compliant and aligned with airport operations with minimal interruption to airport activity.
The position is primarily night-shift based, with working hours from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM. It involves close daily coordination with airport operations, safety personnel, subcontractors and site leadership, and requires consistent observance of aviation security, safety and operational rules.

What the role involves
- Plan, organise and execute construction activities during night-time working windows in line with approved schedules and possession periods.
- Make sure work follows authorised method statements, risk assessments and permit controls.
- Oversee site operations during night shifts so that productivity, quality and safety targets are met.
- Handle the transition between day and night teams effectively.
- Provide on-site engineering support, including setting out, checking completed work and resolving technical issues as they arise.
- Confirm that works match drawings, specifications and design approvals.
- Manage technical questions that come up overnight and escalate them when required.
- Keep clear and accurate records of work completed during each night shift.
- Maintain compliance with airport safety requirements, airside permits and operational limitations.
- Apply safe systems of work, including controls for fatigue and low-visibility conditions.
- Take part in toolbox talks, night briefings and safety observations.
- Ensure emergency procedures and communication arrangements are in place for night operations.
- Work with airport operations, airside management and project stakeholders to align nightworks with approved access arrangements.
- Coordinate subcontractors and suppliers working outside normal hours.
- Liaise with the Construction Manager and site management team regarding progress, issues and upcoming activities.
- Organise logistics, plant and materials for overnight work.
- Check that nightworks meet quality requirements, ITPs and project standards.
- Log progress, inspections and any non-conformances identified during the shift.
- Maintain nightwork reports, shift logs and progress updates.
- Support as-built records and handover documentation.
- Monitor progress against short-term and overall programme milestones.
- Identify risks, constraints and opportunities to improve night operations.
- Provide clear written and verbal updates to the Construction Manager after night shifts.
- Contribute to recovery planning and resequencing when needed.
Experience and requirements
- You must have the legal right to work in the Republic of Ireland.
- You need to be willing to complete a 5-year background screening as part of the recruitment process.
- A degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a closely related field is required.
- Prior experience in site engineering or construction engineering is expected, ideally with exposure to nightworks.
- Experience in live operational settings with strict safety and access controls is required.
- You should have a solid working knowledge of method statements, risk assessments and permit systems.
- A strong understanding of construction sequencing and site operations is necessary.
- You must be able to manage tasks in time-sensitive and safety-critical conditions.
- Good communication and coordination abilities are important, especially for shift handovers.
- You need strong safety awareness, sound judgement and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail are essential.
- You must be able to work independently during night shifts.
Preferred background
- Previous work in airports, rail systems or other 24/7 operational infrastructure environments would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of Irish construction standards and procedures is desirable.
- Safe Pass certification and relevant airport security clearances are preferred, or the ability to obtain them.
- Experience coordinating several subcontractors during out-of-hours work is beneficial.
