Job description
Overview
We are looking for a detail-oriented and commercially savvy Purchaser to join our team based in Castlebar, County Mayo. This permanent full-time position involves managing procurement activities to support projects in engineering, maintenance, and construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, source, and procure materials, equipment, plant, and subcontract services necessary for projects.
- Request, analyze, and compare supplier quotations to ensure optimal value and quality.
- Negotiate terms including pricing, delivery schedules, and contracts with suppliers.
- Create and issue purchase orders adhering to company procedures.
- Track supplier performance regarding punctuality and quality, maintaining strong supplier partnerships.
- Coordinate timely delivery of goods to project sites while managing budgets effectively.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and site teams to anticipate procurement needs.
- Manage open orders, resolve supplier queries, and resolve delivery-related issues.
- Maintain precise purchasing records and documentation.
- Monitor inventory levels and organize restocking when necessary.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and recommend process improvements.
- Ensure adherence to company policies concerning quality, health & safety, and procurement standards.
- Assist with tender processes by sourcing competitively priced supplier quotations.
Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of three years’ experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain roles.
- Background in engineering, construction, mechanical, electrical, or industrial sectors is essential.
- Proven negotiation and supplier management expertise.
- Strong commercial awareness and ability to control costs effectively.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and familiarity with ERP or procurement software.
- Excellent organizational, planning, multitasking, and deadline management skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Full valid driving license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or qualification in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related areas.
- Membership in a recognized procurement professional body.
- Experience with procurement of mechanical and electrical components or construction materials.
- Understanding of contract management and supplier agreements.
