Job description

Role overview

This role is responsible for taking food and beverage orders, delivering alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks as well as food to guest tables in line with hotel service standards, and handling payment collection. The position also supports the upkeep of the restaurant area and its equipment.

Key duties

  • Follow all department rules, service methods, and operating standards without exception.
  • Deliver consistently high service quality throughout each shift.
  • Know the restaurant layout in detail, including table and station numbers, seating capacity, operating hours, table settings, and dress code.
  • Be fully familiar with liquor labels, beer selections, non-alcoholic drinks, appropriate glassware, and garnishes.
  • Understand the wines and champagnes served by the glass, along with the major wines on the list.
  • Know every menu item thoroughly, including pricing, preparation time, ingredients, quality expectations, presentation, portion size, garnish, and serving temperature.
  • Observe all liquor laws and ensure alcohol is never served to minors or intoxicated guests.
  • Use all equipment correctly and only for its intended purpose.
  • Work with both POS and manual service systems as required.
  • Complete opening tasks such as checking stock, folding napkins, collecting supplies, setting tables, preparing condiments and non-alcoholic beverages, arranging cutlery and glassware, preparing cold items, and verifying station cleanliness.
  • Take food and beverage orders using suggestive selling techniques.
  • Accurately enter orders into the system and confirm kitchen receipt; if the system is unavailable, record orders clearly and send them to the kitchen manually.
  • Collect alcoholic beverages from the bar and serve them according to service standards.
  • Open and serve wine or champagne properly.
  • Prepare coffee varieties to the required standard.
  • Serve food courses and non-alcoholic beverages promptly and correctly.
  • Stay attentive to guest needs, respond quickly, and acknowledge guests at all times.
  • Maintain strong guest relations and provide helpful answers about hotel services and nearby attractions.
  • Handle complaints using the required six-step process and work toward guest satisfaction.
  • Keep the station and service areas clean, organized, and sanitary.
  • Coordinate with the assigned bus person, if applicable, to ensure smooth service.
  • Clear courses according to procedure and transport used items to the dishwashing area.
  • Present checks, process payments through the cashier, and follow cash-handling and credit rules.
  • Reset tables immediately after guests leave and record tips at the end of the shift.
  • Carry out closing tasks including storing reusable items, breaking down goods, cleaning equipment, restocking supplies, removing dirty linen, replenishing condiments, and resetting tables for the next meal period.
  • Complete all closing reports and leave only after reporting to the Captain.
  • Maintain a polite, friendly, and professional attitude with guests and colleagues.
  • Support and uphold brand standards and LQA requirements at all times.
  • Take ownership of representing the brand through consistent application of its standards.
  • Perform any other duties assigned as needed.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience working as a waiter.
  • High school diploma.
  • Strong attention to detail, speed, and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize work, stay organized, and follow up effectively.
  • Calm judgment and clear thinking when resolving issues.
  • Ability to follow instructions carefully and understand guest service needs.
  • Comfortable working as part of a team and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of guest and hotel information.
  • Good understanding of guest service needs and strong organizational ability.
  • Ability to stay focused and think clearly while serving guests over extended periods.
  • Capability to suggestively sell menu items, beverages, and wines.
  • Ability to use a POS system and input information accurately.
  • Good timing and coordination while serving orders quickly.
  • Physical stamina to transport food and beverages and remain active throughout the work area.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English; additional languages are an advantage.
  • Must be at least 21 years old to serve alcohol.

Additional information

This role requires strong physical stamina, the ability to move continuously across service areas, reach above and below, and remain in place when needed. Clear communication with guests and coworkers is essential. The job also requires full familiarity with brand standards and LQA standards, plus consistent support to the direct supervisor in maintaining those standards.
