Job description
Overview
This leadership role is responsible for shaping and scaling the Slack Platform into a business that generates revenue. Based in San Francisco, this position focuses on building a stronger third-party ecosystem around Slack and turning it into a meaningful growth driver for the company.
The role brings together product direction, partnerships, go-to-market planning, and business strategy. The objective is to define Slack as a true platform business and lead the teams and initiatives needed to make that vision real.
Platform Strategy and Business Model
- Set the long-range direction for the Slack Platform and evolve it into a revenue-producing business unit.
- Create and refine monetization approaches for the third-party ecosystem, such as revenue share, premium placements, platform tiers, and certification pathways.
- Shape the future state of the Slack app marketplace and developer ecosystem over the next three years.
- Work with Salesforce ecosystem teams to unlock cross-platform value and joint go-to-market opportunities.
Partner Ecosystem
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with companies and individuals building on Slack.
- Grow a network of partner advisors to inform platform and product direction.
- Design and run partner programs, including joint GTM, affiliate motions, and revenue-sharing structures.
- Own commercial deal-making for major partnerships and co-sell agreements.
Developer Experience and Ecosystem Growth
- Manage the developer funnel from awareness and acquisition through activation and retention.
- Lead the platform product function to ensure APIs, tools, and documentation support commercial ecosystem growth.
- Define and monitor ecosystem success indicators such as active apps, third-party DAU/MAU, partner-attributed revenue, and marketplace GMV.
- Support the growth of useful first-party apps that strengthen how AI and other company initiatives work inside Slack.
Go-to-Market
- Create the GTM model for the platform, including how Slack sells with its ecosystem, how partners co-sell, and how customers find third-party apps.
- Lead marketplace strategy for curation, featured placements, discovery, and conversion.
- Partner with Sales and Customer Success to expand platform adoption in large enterprise accounts.
- Represent Slack Platform at developer events, partner summits, and customer-facing forums.
Team and Operating Model
- Lead a cross-functional organization covering business development, partner success, developer relations, and platform operations.
- Own the business metrics or P&L for the platform organization.
- Run the function with strong operating discipline, including goals, budgets, headcount planning, and quarterly business reviews.
Product Leadership Scope
This role carries product leadership accountability for key platform areas in close partnership with engineering and design.
- Platform APIs and developer tooling, including Web API, Events API, Bolt SDKs, and Workflows API.
- Slack automations and Workflow Builder, with partner-extensible capabilities for ISVs and third-party developers.
- App and agent framework for building, distributing, and monetizing apps and AI agents on Slack, including Agentforce integrations and AI-native extensions.
- In-Slack app and agent experience, covering discovery, invocation, conversation surfaces, interaction patterns, UI components, and trust for AI agents.
- Developer platform experience such as docs.slack.dev, sandbox access, onboarding, and the full journey from first API call to published app.
- Slack App Marketplace health, discoverability, curation, and conversion, including partner listing and customer discovery experiences.
- Partner integrations with strategic companies such as Salesforce, Google, Microsoft, ServiceNow, and Atlassian, including premium standards and co-investment models.
- Platform monetization infrastructure, including pricing, billing, and entitlements for models such as paid listings, usage-based billing, and platform tiers.
Who You Are
You are a senior operator with deep experience across product, partnerships, business development, or general management, and you know how to turn platform ecosystems into commercial businesses.
Required Background
- At least 10 years of experience in product, business development, partnerships, or general management, ideally combining platform and go-to-market experience.
- Proven success building or scaling a developer or partner ecosystem at a B2B SaaS or platform company.
- Experience owning a P&L or leading a business with direct revenue accountability.
- Strong grasp of API and platform economics, including how to design mutually beneficial partner programs.
- Commercial strength in structuring deals, negotiating partnerships, and delivering revenue results.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence outcomes without formal authority.
Preferred Background
- Experience in a marketplace, developer platform, or app store environment.
- Exposure to enterprise software go-to-market roles such as field sales, solution engineering, or alliances.
- Understanding of the Salesforce ecosystem and Slack's place within it.
- Experience helping a platform grow from an early stage into a scaled commercial business.
Leadership Profile
- You thrive in greenfield environments and enjoy building from the ground up.
- You can credibly present to executives as well as engage with developers in hands-on settings like hackathons.
- You are analytical, action-oriented, and comfortable moving forward without perfect information.
- You lead with humility, accountability, and a willingness to dive into details when needed.
- You communicate clearly and persuasively, both internally and externally.
Why This Opportunity Matters
The Slack Platform is a strategic company bet with enormous upside. Slack serves millions of daily active users across tens of thousands of businesses, and more than 2,500 apps are already built on the platform. There is still substantial room to grow the ecosystem by applying dedicated investment, commercial models, and focused leadership.
This role offers the mandate, resources, and executive backing to build that business. It is a rare opportunity to lead a platform with Slack's distribution, Salesforce's ecosystem strength, and the untapped potential of a category still being fully defined.
