Job description

Role overview

We are looking for a Traffic Management Operative to join the team in Belfast (BT8 6SA). This position is suited to someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work and wants to contribute to safe, well-organised traffic flow on highways and construction sites.

Main duties

  • Install, monitor and maintain traffic management arrangements.
  • Control vehicle movement safely during roadworks, public events and emergency situations.
  • Work closely with colleagues and clients to keep operations running smoothly.
  • Support a people-focused culture and help drive positive cultural change within the team.

Working pattern

A minimum of 37.5 hours per week is guaranteed. In practice, most weeks can range from 50 to 60 hours. Shifts may include days, evenings, nights and weekends, and overtime may be offered when needed. You will also need to participate in the on-call rota. The role follows a 12-on, 2-off shift pattern, with every other weekend off.

Benefits

  • Guaranteed hours with overtime potential, backed by a leading traffic management business in Northern Ireland.
  • Night shifts are paid at 1.33x, while Saturdays and Sundays are paid at 1.5x.
  • 24 days of annual leave plus 5 Bank Holidays.
  • Life assurance, along with access to 24/7 GP appointments, free counselling and free physiotherapy for you and your family.
  • Free training is provided, with a condition that training costs may be recovered if an employee leaves within 24 months.

Eligibility and application notes

To be considered, you must have the right to work in the UK, your own transport, and be able to travel within one hour of the depot. A full UK driving licence is required, with no more than 6 points and held for over 10 months. The role also requires flexibility for shift work. Holding a valid traffic management qualification such as Lantra 12D M1/M2 or Unit 2 is preferred but not essential.

The employer welcomes applications from women, veterans and people with disabilities, and guarantees an interview to candidates who meet the core role criteria. Reasonable adjustments can be requested during the recruitment process. Final employment is subject to passing drug and alcohol screening and any required medical assessments.
