Job description

Role overview

We are hiring a Traffic Management CAD Designer to create compliant temporary traffic management drawings and support design delivery from Birmingham, with hybrid working available. The position offers a highly competitive salary based on experience.

About the organisation

Consilium Technical Services produces temporary traffic management plans for urban streets, rural roads, dual carriageways and motorways throughout the UK. The team uses current industry software and established best-practice standards. In addition to traffic management design, the business provides swept path analysis, consultancy, RRRAP assessments, BIM and 3D design, and traffic modelling, working with clients from early planning stages through to project delivery.

What the role involves

As a Traffic Management CAD Designer, you will develop accurate, high-quality temporary traffic management drawings using a range of specialist tools, covering both 2D street works layouts and 3D/BIM design for higher-speed road environments. You will be responsible for taking designs from initial brief through to final issue while ensuring all work aligns with the correct standards and regulations, and you will report to the Operations Leads.

Key duties

  • Create temporary traffic management CAD drawings.
  • Join client meetings and contribute to technical conversations.
  • Keep design files, records and supporting documentation up to date.
  • Prepare design risk assessments and help develop safer design solutions.

Working pattern

This is a 40-hour weekly role, Monday to Friday, with working hours between 7:30am and 4:30pm.

About you

You should be a well-organised and self-driven CAD professional who communicates effectively with clients and internal teams. The role suits someone who can work to deadlines, adjust quickly when priorities change, and consistently produce clear, accurate and polished design work. A strong focus on safety, compliance and continuous improvement is important.

Essential experience and knowledge

  • Background in a CAD design technician position.
  • Experience in a comparable role, or direct experience installing temporary traffic management.
  • Sound understanding of relevant industry guidance and reference materials.
  • Confident use of AutoCAD Civils, BricsCAD, Cone, AutoTURN, KeyLines and KeySigns.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable experience

  • Knowledge or experience of BIM and 3D design.
  • IHE Temporary Traffic Management Certificate, or active progress towards it.

Benefits

  • Attractive salary package.
  • 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, and an additional day off for your birthday.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • Life assurance cover.
  • Access to an internal academy, training and career development.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Fill Your Boots Rewards.
  • Help at Hand benefits.

Terms and conditions

  • Terms and conditions apply.
  • Training is dependent on signing a training agreement.
