Job description
Role overview
RAC is looking for a SuperFlex Roadside Mechanic to support its roadside service across the Bromley area. This position is designed for someone who can adapt to changing workloads while still delivering fast, reliable help to members at the roadside.
Pay and working pattern
The role offers a basic salary of £50,669, with earnings that can rise to £57,000 through bonuses and overtime. You will work an average of 40 hours per week across the year. Your roster will be shared seven days ahead of time, and your core hours will be confirmed three days before the shift. Working times can fall anytime between 06:00 and 02:00, so the schedule may include early starts, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
Location and territory
You will be part of the Bromley cluster and may cover Bromley, Orpington, Beckenham, Chislehurst, Sidcup, Eltham, Woolwich, Greenwich, Lewisham, Peckham, and Camberwell. Work is organised locally so you can begin and end your day from home while focusing on helping members in your nearby area.
What the job involves
This is a hands-on roadside role where no two calls are the same. You may be diagnosing faults, changing a flat tyre, dealing with a flat battery, or working through a more complex breakdown. The role calls for calm decision-making, accurate reporting, and the ability to keep your vehicle and tools ready for every job. You will also represent RAC professionally while supporting members in stressful situations.
Tools and support provided
From the first day, RAC supplies a company van, fuel card, full uniform, essential tools, and diagnostic equipment so you are set up to perform effectively from the start.
What you need
Applicants should bring a Level 2 light vehicle maintenance qualification, or an equivalent qualification, along with clear experience in technical, electrical, and diagnostic work. A strong customer-first mindset is important, as is a full UK driving licence. The role also requires flexibility for short-notice working and the willingness to travel and stay overnight when needed.
Who this role suits
This opportunity is well suited to people who do well in busy, changing environments and who want to make a visible difference to motorists in need. It will appeal to candidates who enjoy variety, take pride in their technical ability, and are comfortable taking responsibility on the road.
Benefits
In return, RAC offers a strong package that includes free RAC Ultimate breakdown cover from day one, a colleague share scheme, a car salary sacrifice scheme with electric vehicle options available after 12 months, 23 days of holiday plus bank holidays rising to 25 days with service, pension matching up to 6.5%, life cover of up to 4 times salary, or up to 10 times salary with flex benefits, a 24/7 confidential wellbeing helpline for you and your family, and discounts on tools, technology, holidays, and more through the Orange Savings portal.
