Job description
Role overview
RAC is hiring a Superflex Roadside Mechanic to support motorists in the Maidstone area. This position is built around flexibility, local coverage, and delivering dependable roadside help when members need it most.
Pay and working pattern
The role offers a basic annual salary of £50,669, with the chance to increase earnings to £57,000 through bonuses and overtime. You will work an average of 40 hours each week across the year. Your rota will be shared seven days ahead of time, and your core hours will be confirmed three days before the shift.
Working times fall between 06:00 and 02:00 and can include early starts, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
Work location
You will be part of the Maidstone cluster, covering Maidstone as well as Medway locations including Chatham, Gillingham, Rochester, and Strood, plus Sittingbourne, Sheerness, and Snodland. The working model is organised locally so you can begin and end your day from home while focusing on getting members back on the road in your area.
What the role involves
This is a fast-moving roadside role where every call can be different. You may be diagnosing faults, dealing with tyre issues, or helping with a flat battery. The job calls for a calm approach, strong judgement, and the ability to decide the right fix while keeping the member informed and supported.
You will also be expected to manage your own equipment, keep the van stocked, and complete reports accurately and carefully.
What you need
To be successful, you should have a Level 2 light vehicle maintenance qualification, or an equivalent qualification, along with proven technical, electrical, and diagnostic experience. A customer-first mindset is important, as is holding a full UK driving licence.
You must be comfortable working at short notice and willing to travel, including occasional overnight stays if required.
Tools, support, and benefits
From your first day, RAC will provide a van, fuel card, full uniform, essential tools, and diagnostic equipment. You will also receive access to a range of colleague benefits designed to support wellbeing, reward contribution, and help with long-term planning.
Benefits
- Opportunity to earn up to £57,000 through bonuses and overtime
- Free RAC Ultimate breakdown cover from day one
- Colleague share scheme at no cost
