Job description
Role overview
Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking motivated Band 5 staff nurses with a strong interest in emergency nursing to join its welcoming Emergency Department in Newham. The team handles a varied and fast-paced caseload, and the role suits someone who is resilient, eager to learn, and ready to contribute to a busy but rewarding environment.
The department cares for a broad and diverse community and sees around 400 to 500 patients each day. This includes adults with acute medical needs, children, and people experiencing mental health crises. The post is open to nurses with post-registration experience in an acute setting, but the trust also welcomes applications from newly qualified nurses or those who have gained acute care exposure during training and want to build a career in emergency nursing.
What the role involves
You will be expected to deliver compassionate, individualised, and holistic care while working closely with interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary colleagues. The role requires strong communication, sound clinical judgement, good organisation, and a willingness to keep developing professionally. Practice must always align with the NMC Code, trust guidance, policies, and procedures to support safe and effective care.
About the trust
Barts Health is among the UK’s largest NHS trusts and one of the country’s major healthcare providers. The organisation is continuing its improvement journey and aims to become a high-performing trust known for innovation, excellent clinical standards, and safe, compassionate care across east London and beyond.
The trust’s vision includes delivering strong patient safety outcomes, consistently reducing harm, placing patients in the right care setting at the right time, and creating an excellent workplace. Its WeCare values guide how teams work together, and inclusion is actively promoted so every staff member feels a genuine sense of belonging.
