Job description
Role overview
The Imaging Department at Newham University Hospital within Barts Health is offering a development-focused opportunity for a Band 5 Radiographer to join its team. The role sits within a service that is evolving to a new operating model, with a focus on strengthening imaging provision across all sites and supporting staff to grow through learning, mentorship, and supervised development.
We are seeking a motivated radiographer who is committed to excellent patient care, comfortable working with both clinical and non-clinical colleagues, and able to build trust with stakeholders across different specialties. Strong communication skills and a patient-first approach are essential.
This is an important position within the Imaging Department, contributing to activity targets, quality improvement priorities, diagnostic and cancer performance standards, and the longer-term development of the service.
The post is based at NUH and offers the chance to work in a busy, varied imaging environment with support from experienced colleagues and structured opportunities to progress professionally.
Working pattern
Working hours are Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00.
The post also requires participation in shift work and weekend cover as needed, as part of a 24/7, 365-day imaging service.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out a wide variety of diagnostic radiographic examinations while following departmental procedures and radiation safety requirements.
- Provide kind, patient-centred care and help ensure each patient has a positive experience.
- Produce and maintain images of a high professional standard.
- Collaborate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Support quality assurance work, audits, and service improvement initiatives.
- Help deliver a safe, efficient imaging service, including out-of-hours and weekend working where required.
Support and development
The department offers a welcoming and supportive team culture, with a comprehensive preceptorship programme for newly qualified radiographers. The role includes opportunities to rotate through different imaging areas, access ongoing training and professional development, and receive support for postgraduate study and career progression. Staff wellbeing and support initiatives are also available.
Trust and values
Barts Health is one of the UK’s largest NHS trusts and a major healthcare provider. The organisation is continuing its improvement journey, with a strong focus on patient safety, consistently high standards of care, innovation, and an inclusive workplace culture. The trust is committed to values-based working, collaboration, compassion, and creating a sense of belonging for all staff.
