Job description

Role overview

Barts Health NHS Trust is looking to appoint an experienced and motivated Band 6 nurse for Primrose Ward within the Division of Surgery & Cancer. This position sits within an ambitious redevelopment journey at Whipps Cross, offering the chance to help shape a new hospital and contribute to wider NHS plans to improve care for local communities.

The post calls for an adult nurse with a strong mix of clinical experience, initiative, energy, and a genuine commitment to compassionate care. The successful candidate will also need to show clear leadership ability and the confidence to work closely with the Ward Manager to support excellent care for patients in East London and surrounding areas.

Working in London brings exposure to a diverse patient population and a busy, varied environment. The role is based in East London, where the local community, green spaces, and city lifestyle combine to offer a rewarding place to live and work.

Key duties

  • Support the Ward Manager in maintaining consistently high standards of patient care that align with service needs and Trust objectives.
  • Act as a visible example of the Trust’s values and behaviours for the ward team and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide safe and effective care for patients who are acutely unwell or deteriorating, and escalate concerns promptly to medical and outreach teams.
  • Use strong coordination and supervisory skills to manage ward activity, support staff, encourage multidisciplinary collaboration, and help build a positive learning culture.
  • Take charge of the ward’s day-to-day running when the Ward Manager is unavailable, including responsibility for audit and budget-related tasks.
  • Help ensure the ward remains clean, safe, and compliant with infection prevention measures, dress code, and all other Trust policies and procedures.
  • Work consistently in line with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct as a registered nurse.
