St. Joseph's Foundation is a voluntary body that supports people with intellectual disabilities through a broad range of services. Established in 1968, the organisation has continued to expand by adapting its services to meet the changing needs of individuals and their families.

Candidate Profile

The organisation is looking for someone with a strong social care or nursing background who is comfortable supporting people with intellectual disabilities and handling behaviour that can be challenging. The role also calls for the ability to work independently and to guide both service users and staff in a residential environment.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A HETAC-accredited Diploma or Degree in Social Care, or a qualification in Nursing (RNID), or eligibility for CORU registration under the relevant standards of proficiency for social care workers.
  • Previous experience supporting adults or children with intellectual disabilities.
  • Experience of managing behaviour that challenges.
  • Capability to work on your own initiative and supervise service users and staff in a residential setting.
  • A full driving licence is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day personal care and help service users build everyday living, social, and practical life skills.
  • Support individuals with budgeting, money management, and household duties while promoting active involvement.
  • Administer prescribed medicines and keep precise records.
  • Organise and encourage leisure pursuits and community-based activities suited to residents' needs.
  • Follow all health, safety, and emergency protocols.
  • Assist with the development and supervision of staff under the guidance of the Person in Charge.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
  • Work in line with the Foundation's policies and procedures, while respecting confidentiality and promoting advocacy.
