Job description
Role overview
This position is for a senior mechanical engineer focused on HVAC design for construction projects in Qatar. The role centers on creating efficient, compliant, and high-quality heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning solutions that align with project needs and recognized international standards.
Key responsibilities
- Take ownership of HVAC system design work, including cooling load calculations, duct sizing, equipment selection, and overall system arrangement.
- Prepare design concepts and detailed mechanical drawings for air-conditioning and ventilation systems.
- Develop solutions that balance energy performance with cost effectiveness.
- Work closely with architectural, structural, and other MEP teams to keep design packages coordinated.
- Ensure HVAC systems are properly integrated into the overall building design and resolve clashes or technical conflicts.
- Make sure all design work complies with Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS), ASHRAE requirements, and relevant local authority rules.
- Prepare and review design submissions submitted for approval.
- Review shop drawings, material submittals, and method statements to confirm design intent and compliance.
- Answer RFIs and provide technical explanations where needed.
- Participate in design reviews and value engineering exercises.
- Support construction-stage activities with technical input.
- Visit site to check installation quality and confirm alignment with the approved design.
- Assist with testing and commissioning of HVAC systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- UPDA/MMUP certification is required.
- 10 to 12 years of experience in HVAC design for construction projects.
- Background in consultancy or contractor-side design work is strongly preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge of chilled water systems, VRF systems, and ventilation systems.
- Hands-on proficiency with HAP, AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM tools.
- Solid understanding of ASHRAE standards and local codes.
