Job description
Position overview
The Schaubühne Berlin is looking for a Requisiteur_in for the 2026/2027 season, starting on 01.09.2026. The role is based in Berlin, postal code 10709, and is offered as a full-time position. The position is tied to the NV-Bühne in-house collective agreement at an average weekly working time of 40 hours. It may also be suitable for part-time work.
About the company
Schaubühne Berlin is one of the leading spoken-theatre companies in the German-speaking world. Its work centers on a permanent ensemble of around 30 actors. The repertoire includes classics of world dramatic literature as well as contemporary plays by internationally recognized writers. Each season, the theatre premieres about eight new productions and also maintains a rotating repertory of more than thirty productions.
In addition, the company presents up to 100 performances on international touring engagements and organizes the festival Internationale Neue Dramatik (FIND). Over the years, FIND has grown into one of Berlin’s most important international theatre festivals, introducing new theatre from a wide range of linguistic and cultural contexts to the city each year.
Role and responsibilities
The role covers prop work for rehearsals and performances across the different venues, including setup and breakdown, handovers, and scene changes within the props department.
You will also be responsible for researching, sourcing, and purchasing props.
Another part of the job is developing and producing props for new productions, both independently and in close cooperation with the theatre’s scenic workshops.
Requirements
Applicants should have completed vocational training in a trade, ideally with a qualification as a props technician, or bring several years of relevant professional experience in a spoken-theatre props department.
The theatre is looking for someone with creativity, initiative, practical craftsmanship, and enthusiasm for technical innovation.
Artistic sensitivity and knowledge of cultural and art history are also expected.
Candidates must be open to irregular working hours, including weekends.
Strong teamwork, clear communication, reliability, organizational ability, resilience under pressure, and a strong sense of responsibility are required.
Good command of standard office software and digital image-editing tools is needed, along with solid English skills.
Benefits
The role offers the chance to join international touring productions, with recent destinations including Shanghai, Montreal, Avignon, Venice, and many more.
You will have the opportunity to work with highly regarded directors and stage designers.
The workplace is collaborative and collegial.
Benefits also include company pension provision, a subsidy for a monthly public transport pass or the Deutschlandticket, and the option to use a JobRad bike scheme.
Additional discounts are available, including theatre tickets, the Schaubühne café, and a nearby fitness studio.
New hires receive structured onboarding and ongoing professional development.
Equal opportunity and accessibility
The organization is committed to personal integrity, mutual respect, and recognition of social diversity. Its personnel policy aims to value and make use of diverse competencies and actively counters discrimination based on ethnic, social, or regional origin, gender, religion or belief, disability, age, or sexual identity.
Applications from all candidates who meet the professional requirements are welcome. Applicants with severe disabilities will be given preference if equally qualified. Not all areas of the workplace are barrier-free, but the team is willing to work with the selected candidate to improve accessibility where possible.
Application details
Please submit a complete application package, with all attachments merged into one PDF, by 17.06.2026 to the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz, addressed to Philipp Bösch, Technical Director, Kurfürstendamm 153, 10709 Berlin, or by email to tl@schaubuehne.de.
