Role Overview

This opportunity is for a procurement professional who is comfortable operating in a complex, high-stakes environment and wants to contribute to Australia’s defence capability. The role offers broad visibility across several programs and capability areas, with direct influence on commercial and operational outcomes.

The position sits within what is described as the largest and most complex supply chain in Australian history, creating a setting where strategic thinking, disciplined execution, and strong supplier management are essential. Australian citizenship is compulsory for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and implement category strategies that reduce exposure and improve overall value.
  • Partner closely with internal teams and key suppliers to support procurement outcomes.
  • Oversee contracts, supplier performance, identified risks, and emerging opportunities.
  • Deliver commercial improvements, cost reductions, and procurement practices aligned to best standards.

Measures of Success

  • Contracts are completed on schedule, within budget, and according to requirements.
  • Internal stakeholders receive goods and services that match their operational needs.
  • Supplier performance remains strong, with risks identified and managed proactively.
  • Communication is clear, relationships are trusted, and commercial decisions are effective.
  • The procurement function operates with discipline, integrity, and a mindset of innovation.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for someone with a background in procurement or supply chain who can combine commercial judgement with stakeholder influence and strategic sourcing capability. You should be confident handling negotiations, managing categories, and working with contracts and risk considerations.

Additional Requirements

  • Tertiary study in commerce, law, supply chain, procurement, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in procurement or supply chain.
  • Demonstrated success in strategic sourcing and delivering measurable cost savings.
  • Strong commercial understanding and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of category management, contract law, and risk management.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Australian citizenship is mandatory.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Opportunity to contribute to major national defence programs.
  • Join a high-performing, values-led workplace.
  • Clear scope for growth, development, and leadership progression.
  • Direct influence over commercial outcomes and strategic direction.
  • Additional 2 weeks of leave, flexible working arrangements, and a strong workplace culture.
