Role Overview

The Pallet Auditor role is focused on coordinating pallet operations across sites, keeping pallet movements accurately tracked, recovering outstanding balances, and ensuring compliance with customer arrangements and internal standards. The position also supports audits, reporting, dispute resolution, and process improvement to strengthen operational control and efficiency.

Responsibilities

This role covers national pallet exchange management, audit coordination, reporting, stakeholder engagement, and compliance oversight.

  • Oversee pallet exchange activity across the country and support recovery of outstanding pallet balances at all sites.
  • Design and apply recovery plans that align with business objectives and contractual commitments.
  • Authorise and coordinate transport needs for pallet returns and collections.
  • Handle escalated pallet-related disputes involving customers, internal stakeholders, and CHEP.
  • Support the setup, revision, and adherence of CHEP agreements for both new and existing customers.
  • Engage customers on pallet balances, root-cause analysis, and long-term recovery actions.
  • Improve governance so that all sites operate in line with agreement terms.
  • Manage the national pallet audit plan and ensure every site is audited within the 12-month cycle.
  • Review audit outcomes, confirm reconciliation reports, and push corrective actions through to closure.
  • Check loading plans against pallets in trade and work with customers to resolve variances.
  • Maintain compliance with CHEP requirements, DHL policies, regulatory expectations, and Health & Safety standards.
  • Protect the accuracy, integrity, and effective use of GLS and other pallet management systems.
  • Prepare and present monthly and quarterly reports covering performance, trends, risks, and strategic insights.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting, tracking, and automation.
  • Ensure proper system access controls and governance are followed by all sites.
  • Run weekly working sessions with pallet controllers and site leaders to clear issues and set priorities.
  • Join monthly strategy meetings with the Pallet Lead and senior management.
  • Visit sites regularly to review compliance, coach teams, resolve escalations, and support improvement efforts.
  • Develop strong working relationships with CHEP, customers, operations, finance, and transport teams.

Requirements

The position calls for strong analytical thinking, operational understanding, and the ability to manage complex pallet-related processes in a high-pressure environment.

  • Matric is required.
  • More than 3 years of operational experience is a distinct advantage.
  • Good analytical ability for audits, reconciliations, and validation of system data.
  • Solid understanding of CHEP exchange procedures and pallet management standards.
  • Knowledge of logistics operations, FMCG flows, and supply chain linkages.
  • A proactive, practical approach to solving operational problems.
  • Capability to analyse complex issues and develop workable, sustainable solutions.
  • Ability to enforce Health and Safety procedures and identify hazards.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Comfortable operating at a strategic level.
  • Able to work effectively under pressure in a fast-changing environment.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Willing to take on additional responsibilities when required.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • English communication skills, both spoken and written.

Additional Information

This is a full-time onsite role based in Kempton Park, Gauteng, South Africa. The job emphasises reducing national pallet balances, completing audits within the required cycle, maintaining data integrity in GLS, and ensuring timely reporting and compliance closure across sites.

Performance Expectations

  • Reduce national outstanding pallet balances in line with agreed recovery targets.
  • Complete 100% of site audits within the required 12-month cycle.
  • Maintain accurate GLS data and reliable pallet reconciliation.
  • Support customer satisfaction and contractual compliance for all CHEP agreements.
  • Improve operational compliance across sites, with audit findings closed within SLA.
  • Deliver monthly and quarterly pallet performance reports on time.

Language Requirement

English proficiency is required for both verbal and written communication.
