Role overview
This position is for a Mechanical Draftsman focused on HVAC design within the MEP/Engineering department in Qatar. The role centers on producing precise air-conditioning and ventilation drawings, maintaining coordinated documentation, and ensuring that all deliverables meet project needs, local regulations, and relevant industry practices. Candidates must bring at least 10 years of HVAC drafting background, with Qatar project experience being mandatory.
What you will do
- Create detailed HVAC deliverables such as ducting plans, piping routes, equipment placement drawings, and schematic diagrams.
- Produce shop drawings, as-built records, and fully coordinated MEP drawing sets.
- Assist engineers by converting design intent into clear technical drawings.
- Build and revise 3D BIM models at LOD 300/400 in Revit.
- Work closely with architectural, structural, and MEP stakeholders to identify and eliminate clashes.
- Take part in model coordination and clash detection using Navisworks or comparable software.
- Keep drawings complete, accurate, and aligned with project specifications.
- Maintain drawing logs, revision tracking, and version control.
- Revise drawings when design updates or site conditions require changes.
- Ensure compliance with Qatar Construction Specifications, project requirements, and company CAD/BIM standards.
- Support site teams in clearing up drafting issues related to construction.
- Incorporate site instructions and red-marked changes into updated drawings.
- Coordinate with site engineers to prepare and finalize as-built documentation.
Requirements
- Diploma or ITI qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Drafting.
- At least 10 years of experience in HVAC drafting.
- Prior involvement in Qatar projects is essential.
- Background working with MEP consultants or contractors is required.
- Strong command of AutoCAD for 2D drafting work.
- Hands-on experience with Revit MEP for 3D modeling.
- Working knowledge of Navisworks or similar BIM coordination software.
- Good understanding of HVAC systems, ductwork, and piping standards.
