Job Overview

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring smooth, safe, and efficient operation of plant machinery and equipment through routine and emergency maintenance, repairs, and inspections, adhering to company policies and safety standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular machine inspections using visual checks, audio cues, and scheduled performance tests.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance and service for all equipment, document work orders daily, and update the CMMS system accordingly.
  • Collaborate with site managers to evaluate maintenance needs and plan preventive schedules.
  • Inspect and maintain tools and maintenance equipment routinely.
  • Utilize various hand and power tools to perform maintenance tasks.
  • Install, assemble, and test new machinery and equipment.
  • Identify and troubleshoot machine malfunctions promptly, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
  • Perform emergency repairs, replacing worn or defective components efficiently.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical system failures and execute effective repairs.
  • Read and interpret operation manuals and instructions accurately.
  • Maintain machinery and adjacent areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Assist with inventory control and upkeep of workshop and plant facilities.
  • Adhere strictly to OSHA, LOTO, PPE requirements, and company safety guidelines.
  • Ensure all safety devices are functioning properly and comply with HACCP and GMP practices alongside company SOPs and SSOPs.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Knowledgeable in mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic trades, including basic motor, controller, plumbing, PLC I/O, and TCP/IP fundamentals.
  • Preferred: 2-year technical degree and previous meat processing facility experience.
  • Experience with robotics maintenance and troubleshooting, ammonia refrigeration, and food manufacturing environments is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with at least one CMMS program.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.

  • Physically capable of performing heavy labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds and performing tasks requiring stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and standing for long periods.

Physical and Working Conditions

The role involves wearing personal protective equipment and working on slippery floors in a production environment averaging 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Exposure to raw and cooked meat products and moving machinery is expected. Safe work practices and food safety compliance are mandatory.

Additional Information

The hourly pay range starts at $23.31 and can increase up to $43.01, dependent on qualifications and experience. Compensation includes participation in a comprehensive benefits program encompassing medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401k, paid holidays, and time off.
