Position Overview

Join our Eastern Canada District as a Project Engineer, where you will oversee both administrative and technical facets of construction projects within the transportation market. Your role includes leading a team of field and cost engineers, acting as the central liaison between construction management and the project team to communicate cost, revenue, and cash flow updates. This position also offers the chance to mentor junior team members and foster their professional growth.

Our operations encompass a diverse range of projects including highways, bridges, mass transit systems, mining site development, open pit operations, hydroelectric power plants, wind-power facilities, dams, and industrial projects primarily located in Eastern Canada.

Core Responsibilities

  • Gain comprehensive knowledge of contract plans and specifications.
  • Conduct field condition inspections to identify issues, inaccuracies, and opportunities for cost savings, taking appropriate corrective actions.
  • Review and verify subordinates’ work for compliance with project plans, addressing deficiencies through explanations and corrective measures.
  • Implement safe work practices by evaluating directives from supervisors and integrating them into action plans.
  • Monitor the operation of installed equipment and systems to identify hazards or requirements for adjustments or replacements.
  • Recognize workplace safety hazards and act promptly to mitigate risks.
  • Respond effectively to safety warnings such as alarms, smoke detection, and warning tags.
  • Properly execute lockout/tagout procedures to maintain safety standards.
  • Develop and maintain project master schedules using advanced scheduling tools alongside project management collaboration.
  • Manage document control by logging, reviewing, and distributing contract documents and drawings for changes and compliance.
  • Prepare monthly cost forecasts and quarterly cash flow projections leveraging project management system data.
  • Oversee procurement processes and ensure timely material deliveries.
  • Support site management in implementing quality assurance and control programs.
  • Recommend improvements to staffing, procedures, and methods to enhance project efficiency.
  • Provide leadership as project engineer or coordinator across several projects, including supervising and mentoring lower-level engineers.
  • Utilize effective written and verbal communication skills alongside strong numerical abilities for calculations.
  • Interpret and visualize two-dimensional plans in three dimensions to ensure project compliance and success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related discipline or equivalent combination of education and project/field engineering experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or registered as an Engineer-in-Training, or eligible for registration.
  • At least five years of construction experience emphasizing safety protocols.
  • Proficient in managing accounts payable/receivable, materials control, estimating, job cost updates, and subcontract administration.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, organizational, delegation, teaching, and mentoring skills.
  • Willingness to relocate and travel according to business requirements.
  • Commitment to uphold high standards in leadership, safety, quality, and productivity for self and team members.
  • Capability to access all construction site areas safely.

Compensation & Benefits

The base salary ranges from $97,142 to $130,000 annually, with the exact amount influenced by education, experience, skills, and work location.
