Role Overview
The Legal Assistant will partner closely with an attorney and a litigation paralegal to help manage active matters in line with Georgia civil procedure requirements. This role involves collecting medical documentation, updating bills, lien and loan information, and PIP records, preparing legal paperwork for attorney review, and maintaining communication with clients and opposing counsel.
Key Duties
- Organize medical files by reviewing, renaming, and maintaining records, bills, non-party records, letters of protection, PIP logs, and health insurance liens.
- Examine intake materials, case notes, and discovery responses.
- Request medical documentation, billing statements, and diagnostic CDs from providers.
- Assemble complete medical record and billing packages.
- Prepare medical binders for depositions, mediations, and trial use.
- Log treatment visits and physician details for medical chronologies and expert or witness lists.
- Review medical billing for accuracy.
- Handle invoicing related to medical records, bills, and diagnostic media.
- Evaluate health liens, build lien summaries, and challenge unrelated charges.
- Follow up with medical offices and update case files based on responses.
- File legal documents electronically through Georgia’s e-portal system.
- Store documents and add witness and contact information in the case management platform.
- Prepare court filings, including subpoenas.
- Keep monthly contact with clients.
- Arrange transportation for clients to attend appointments.
- Manage the attorney’s calendar.
- Serve as an interpreter for the attorney when working with non-English-speaking clients, if capable.
- Carry out additional job-related tasks as needed.
Schedule and Work Setting
This is a full-time, on-site position with working hours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Fluency in English and Spanish is required; Creole is considered an advantage.
- Prior legal experience, including experience working with clients, is preferred.
- Strong customer service abilities are important.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Adobe Pro or comparable PDF tools, is needed.
- Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently.
- Comfort working under pressure and handling a demanding, fast-moving workload.
- Strong organization, multitasking, and prioritization skills.
