Job description

Role overview

This position is responsible for keeping the store environment clean, sanitary, and safe. The role supports customer confidence and loyalty by helping maintain consistent operating conditions that meet company standards. It also calls for working in a respectful, inclusive setting that values people from different backgrounds and experiences.

Key duties

  • Keep sales areas, liquor store areas, offices, break rooms, back rooms, training rooms, and approximately 70% of restrooms tidy and free of safety hazards.
  • Use floor care machines, department equipment, tools, and cleaning chemicals properly.
  • Sweep or vacuum mats and rugs and return them to their original positions afterward.
  • Remove stains and spots from carpeted areas.
  • Empty trash and carry out deep-cleaning tasks in restrooms.
  • Create a welcoming store environment that helps customers feel valued and supported.
  • Maintain the daily cleanliness and sanitation standards expected by the company.
  • Assist customers by helping them locate items or suggesting products when needed.
  • Follow company expectations for safety, food handling, sanitation, and productivity.
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements related to food safety, USDA rules, COOL requirements, and Department of Agriculture expectations.
  • Carry out recalls and withdrawals promptly and ensure affected products are secured and kept away from customer access.
  • Support store safety programs by following procedures, spotting unsafe conditions, and reporting them to management.
  • Report customer or employee accidents, as well as any safety concerns or illegal activity such as robbery, theft, or fraud.
  • Follow wage-and-hour policies and applicable regulations.
  • Help build a strong safety culture in the store and ensure associates work safely and receive the required safety training.
  • Make sure hazard assessments are displayed for associate reference and that personal protective equipment is available and used as needed.
  • Keep equipment in working condition and help address safety issues, including lockout/tagout-related remediation when necessary.
  • Perform any other job-related duties assigned by management.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED preferred. English is required, and Spanish is preferred. The role calls for 0 to 3 years of relevant experience and does not require supervisory experience.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States, or able to obtain authorization.
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment drug screening and a background check.
  • Strong customer service skills are required.
  • Good interpersonal, motivational, and communication skills are important.

Working conditions

This is a retail environment with heavy physical demands. The job involves standing and walking on different flooring surfaces, using both hands and feet repeatedly, and handling tasks that require reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. The employee may also need to sit, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb up to 30 feet.

Work may take place indoors or outdoors and in cold, freezing, warm, wet, or humid conditions. Safety risks can include slippery or cluttered floors, twisting of the back or neck, hazardous equipment, sharp objects, loud noise, dust, fumes, sprays, cleaning chemicals, skin irritants, and other toxins.

Equipment and physical requirements

Common tools and equipment include cleaning supplies, cleaning machines, general office equipment, register equipment, pricing guns, scales, scanners, and material-handling tools such as racks, carts, pallet jacks, and shopping carts. Preferred equipment includes a baler/compactor and a box cutter. Required PPE includes goggles, gloves, and a back brace. The pulling requirement is 250 lbs, and the lifting requirement is 50 lbs.

Schedule and travel

Work is scheduled in varied shifts. Travel is occasional, and overnight travel is not required.
