Job description

Role overview

The Equipment Supervisor will oversee the day-to-day operation, upkeep, and personnel handling rubber removal and surface cleaning work across runways, taxiways, and aprons at Hamad International Airport and Doha International Airport. The position is focused on meeting aviation safety requirements, keeping equipment operating at peak efficiency, and planning cleaning activities in a way that protects runway friction levels and preserves continuous airport readiness.

Key responsibilities

  • Work with the Motor Transport Section to plan preventive maintenance for all pavement maintenance machinery so servicing happens on time.
  • Handle breakdowns and corrective repairs in coordination with the Motor Transport Section to reduce downtime and keep equipment available during busy periods.
  • Check and monitor rubber removal units, sweepers, friction testers, vehicles, and related equipment through regular inspections so they remain safe and ready for use.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance work, part changes, and other important performance details to support analysis of equipment condition.
  • Support team capability by arranging operator training on safe use, proper handling, and best practices for sweepers, friction testers, rubber removal equipment, and blowers.
  • Prepare and present Equipment KPI reports with the line manager to measure performance, identify patterns, and support improvement efforts.
  • Oversee stock control for spare parts, consumables, and tools needed for maintenance and repairs, maintaining efficient inventory levels and avoiding shortages or excess.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and OEMs for maintenance, repair, calibration, and equipment upgrades in a timely manner.
  • Operate mechanical sweepers and rubber removal equipment when required and demonstrate practical hands-on ability.
  • Review equipment availability reports and service plans to manage equipment usage effectively across airfield operations.
  • Lead adverse weather recalibration exercises and refresh operators on emergency procedures to strengthen readiness for urgent situations.
  • Communicate work plans clearly with equipment operators and promote consistent performance through proactive coordination.
  • Run regular toolbox talks to reinforce safe working practices and help prevent incidents during all stages of the work.
  • Carry out any other department duties linked to the position as assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements

  • High School Qualification, Vocational Qualification, Diploma, or an equivalent credential with at least 3 years of job-related experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with at least 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of supervisory experience in airfield maintenance.
  • Strong practical and theoretical understanding of airfield pavement equipment such as sweepers, friction testers, and rubber removal machines.
  • Knowledge of local statutory requirements and Code of Practice regulations.
  • Formal training or certification in equipment operation or maintenance.
  • Experience in a multi-airport environment.
  • Exposure to emergency response planning and operations during adverse weather.
  • Ability to supervise in-house operators and outsourced vendors.
  • Capability to plan staff schedules and manage daily operations.
  • Ability to produce a variety of reports.
  • Comfortable reading and interpreting specifications, operating manuals, and preventive maintenance checklists.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills at all organizational levels.
  • Good awareness of airport operating limitations and safety obligations.
  • Careful attention to detail during routine inspections.
  • Understanding of statutory regulations and compliance standards.
  • Proven leadership style with a customer-oriented approach.
  • Responsible and proactive work ethic preferred.
  • Familiarity with airside facility regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge of ICAO rules and airfield maintenance standards.
  • Understanding of airfield safety procedures.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver within deadlines.

Additional information

This role covers both Hamad International Airport and Doha International Airport and includes responsibility for maintaining operational readiness across critical airfield cleaning and pavement support activities. The position requires direct coordination with maintenance teams, suppliers, OEMs, and operators, along with active participation in safety briefings and emergency preparedness exercises.
