Role overview
This position is responsible for leading the operations, upkeep, and workforce involved in rubber removal and surface cleaning across runways, taxiways, and aprons at Hamad International Airport and Doha International Airport. The role is focused on aviation safety compliance, high equipment uptime, effective work scheduling, and maintaining runway friction standards so airfield operations remain ready at all times.
Key responsibilities
- Work with the Motor Transport Section to plan preventive maintenance for pavement maintenance equipment and keep maintenance activities on schedule.
- Oversee breakdown response and corrective repairs in coordination with the Motor Transport Section to reduce downtime and keep equipment available during busy periods.
- Check that vehicles and equipment such as rubber removal units, sweepers, friction testers, and related machinery are kept in safe working condition through planned inspections and monitoring.
- Keep detailed records of maintenance work, part replacements, and other important operating data to monitor and review equipment performance.
- Support team capability by arranging operator training on safe and effective use of sweepers, friction testers, rubber removal machines, and blowers.
- Together with the line manager, prepare and present equipment KPI reports to measure performance, spot patterns, and support improvement actions.
- Control stocks of spare parts, consumables, and tools used for maintenance and repairs to avoid shortages, reduce waste, and improve efficiency.
- Coordinate with suppliers and OEMs for maintenance, repairs, calibration, and equipment upgrades in a timely way.
- Operate mechanical sweepers and rubber removal equipment when needed and demonstrate practical hands-on ability.
- Review equipment availability reports and service plans to manage utilization across all airfield equipment.
- Plan and carry out recalibration exercises for adverse weather conditions, while updating operators on emergency procedures and readiness requirements.
- Communicate proactively with equipment operators to ensure the work plan is clearly understood and that the team performs effectively.
- Lead regular toolbox talks to reinforce safe working practices and help prevent accidents or incidents during execution.
- Carry out other related duties assigned by the Head of Department.
Requirements
- High School, Vocational Qualification, Diploma, or an equivalent qualification with at least 3 years of relevant experience; or a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with at least 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
- At least 2–3 years of supervisory experience in airfield maintenance.
- Strong practical and theoretical understanding of airfield pavement equipment, including sweepers, friction testers, and rubber removal machines.
- Knowledge of local legal requirements and Code of Practice regulations.
- Formal training or certification in equipment operation or maintenance.
- Experience in a multi-airport working environment.
- Exposure to emergency response planning and operations in adverse weather.
- Ability to supervise both internal equipment operators and outsourced vendors.
- Capability to plan staff schedules and manage daily operational activity.
- Ability to prepare a range of reports.
- Comfortable reading and understanding specifications, operating manuals, and preventive maintenance checklists.
- Strong spoken and written English communication skills across all levels.
- Understanding of airport operational limits and safety requirements.
- Careful attention to detail during routine inspections.
- Knowledge of statutory regulations and compliance expectations.
- Proven leadership style with a customer-oriented approach.
- Responsible, proactive work attitude preferred.
- Familiarity with airside facility regulations and requirements.
- Understanding of ICAO rules and airfield maintenance standards preferred.
