Job description
Role overview
The Digital Portfolio Director will lead the Collaborative’s digital transformation portfolio at executive level, taking responsibility for planning, setting priorities, governance and successful delivery. The post carries authority and accountability across major programmes and ensures they are delivered in a safe, effective and sustainable way.
This portfolio includes, but is not limited to, Electronic Patient Records (EPR), PACS, LIMS, Microsoft platforms, data platforms and innovation work. The role requires consistent control of scope, timing, budget and quality, while also managing risks and interdependencies across a large, multi-organisation landscape.
With a high degree of autonomy and corporate authority, the position has system-wide influence on patient safety, clinical outcomes, workforce productivity, financial sustainability, regulatory compliance and organisational reputation. The decisions made in this role have direct consequences for care delivery, staff working practices and the use of public resources, and therefore involve significant clinical, financial and reputational exposure.
As a highly visible senior leader, the Digital Portfolio Director will help shape strategy, policy and delivery across Trust, Collaborative, ICS, regional and national forums, and must be able to operate confidently in complex, politically sensitive and contested settings.
Responsibilities
- Provide executive leadership for the digital transformation portfolio across the Collaborative.
- Oversee the planning, prioritisation, governance and delivery of major digital programmes.
- Ensure programmes are delivered safely, effectively and sustainably.
- Manage scope, schedule, cost and quality to agreed standards.
- Coordinate and control risks, assumptions and dependencies across a multi-organisation portfolio.
- Lead delivery across major initiatives such as EPR, PACS, LIMS, Microsoft platforms, data platforms and innovation.
- Influence digital strategy, policy and delivery at Trust, Collaborative, ICS, regional and national levels.
- Operate credibly and effectively in highly complex and politically sensitive environments.
- Support an inclusive culture and act as a role model in line with organisational values.
