Job description

About the role

We are seeking a Customer Specialist to support the growth and retention of a small-to-medium customer portfolio. This position blends office-based and remote work, with a strong emphasis on phone-based customer engagement, consultative selling, and building lasting client relationships.

Motion operates throughout Asia Pacific, including New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, and Singapore, and supplies industrial products and engineering services that help keep industries moving. With an ambitious 2027 growth plan, the business is investing heavily in expansion and employee development, creating strong opportunities to build skills and progress your career.

What you'll do

  • Handle both inbound and outbound customer calls to uncover needs, address issues, and strengthen retention across the small and medium business segment.
  • Manage the full sales cycle, from qualifying leads through to order entry and after-sales follow-up.
  • Use structured retention tactics and sales methods from internal playbooks to reduce customer loss and improve loyalty.
  • Spot upsell and cross-sell opportunities within existing accounts and present Motion’s broader offering to drive revenue growth.
  • Maintain accurate customer data in CRM and ERP platforms to support reporting, analysis, and operational decisions.
  • Partner with sales, product, and branch teams to deliver a smooth and consistent customer experience.
  • Track and report on sales and retention results to support targets and strategy.

Skills and experience needed

  • Background in customer retention, account management, or revenue growth, ideally within the small-to-medium business market.
  • Comfort and confidence with high-volume phone-based customer conversations, both inbound and outbound.
  • Working knowledge of sales playbooks, structured selling approaches, and CRM tools.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and issue-solving abilities.
  • Self-driven and outcome-focused, with the ability to work independently and manage priorities well.
  • Experience using MS Office tools such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, plus ERP systems and reporting platforms such as Power BI.
  • Exposure to industrial products or the industrial sector would be an advantage, though it is not essential.
  • Collaborative, adaptable, resilient, and genuinely customer-focused.

Benefits and perks

  • Hybrid working arrangement, including work from home.
  • Pay above award rates, plus superannuation, bonuses, and referral rewards.
  • Free training and clear pathways for career development and progression.
  • Incentive program to recognise and reward team success.
  • Discounts from automotive and industrial suppliers such as Repco.
  • Opportunity to work with colleagues across the Asia Pacific region as part of the wider GPC Group.
  • Ongoing learning and development support to help you reach your potential.
  • Inclusive workplace culture that values diversity.
  • Free flu vaccinations and access to counselling through the employee assistance program, along with mental health and wellbeing support.
  • Choice of supplied uniform to encourage team spirit and belonging.
  • One paid volunteer leave day each calendar year.
  • Parental leave top-up allowance to provide additional financial support when welcoming a new family member.
