Where you'll work

Job description

About the role

In this position, you’ll deliver Waitrose products and the brand’s customer service standards straight to people’s homes. When you are not on delivery duties, you’ll return to the shop floor to help the team with everyday store tasks such as restocking shelves and keeping the area tidy. The role plays a part in keeping the store running smoothly within a welcoming, team-focused environment.

Because of the nature of the job, applicants must be at least 18 years old.

What you’ll do

  • Review your delivery schedule at the start of each shift.
  • Load and organise the van so orders are ready for efficient home delivery.
  • Carry out the necessary vehicle safety checks and ensure road, health, and safety compliance.
  • Represent the Waitrose brand professionally while delivering, with customer care as your main priority.
  • Assist shoppers, offer helpful service, and build positive relationships based on trust.
  • Support the wider store team with general shopkeeping work whenever needed.

What you need

  • A full UK Category B manual driving licence with no more than 6 points.
  • Strong customer service ability.
  • Good time management.
  • Physical capability to lift crates and move cages.
  • The ability to work on your own, stay motivated, and adapt to changing needs.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Previous experience in driving and familiarity with chilled vehicles would be an advantage.

About the Partnership

The organisation is the UK’s largest employee-owned business and includes John Lewis and Waitrose. Partners share ownership and responsibility, and the business is focused on retail excellence, innovation, and strong service. The culture emphasises kindness, respect, inclusion, and creating a place where people can be themselves and thrive.

Additional information

Some roles may require pre-employment checks, which can include DBS screening and, in some cases, financial probity checks. If these apply, you will be told during recruitment and should complete any required documents promptly to avoid delays.

Vacancies may close before the stated deadline if the business receives a high number of applications, so early application is recommended. If you need a reasonable adjustment because of a disability and require extra time for your application, you should contact the employer as soon as possible.

Working arrangements

Flexible working is supported where possible, including options such as flexible hours, compressed hours, job sharing, or shorter-hour contracts. These arrangements can be discussed with the hiring manager during the interview process.
