Job description
About the role
This position combines customer delivery driving with in-store support. You will deliver Waitrose products directly to customers while representing the brand with a strong focus on service. When you are not on delivery runs, you will assist the shop team with everyday tasks such as replenishing stock and keeping the store tidy, helping maintain an efficient and welcoming working environment.
This role requires you to be at least 18 years old because of the nature of the work.
What you’ll do
- Review your delivery schedule and route for the day.
- Load and prepare the van so orders are organised and ready for efficient customer drop-offs.
- Complete the required vehicle safety checks and make sure the van remains compliant with road, health, and safety standards.
- Deliver excellent customer service while acting as a representative of the Waitrose brand on the road.
- Assist customers with their shopping and build trust through friendly, reliable service.
- Support the wider shop team with general store duties when needed.
Skills and experience needed
- Full UK manual B-category driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points.
- Strong customer service ability.
- Good time management.
- Physical capability to handle tasks such as lifting crates and moving cages.
- Ability to work independently with self-motivation and flexibility.
- Comfort using basic IT systems.
Desirable experience
Previous work in a driving role and familiarity with chilled vehicles would be an advantage.

Other important information
Some roles may require pre-employment checks, which can include DBS screening for successful candidates. If this applies, you will be told during recruitment and asked to complete the necessary documents promptly to avoid delays. DBS checks, where needed, will be completed through a third-party registered body, and financial probity checks may also be required for certain roles.
Vacancies may close before the stated deadline if applications are received in high numbers, so early application is recommended. If you need extra time to complete your application because of a disability and require a reasonable adjustment, you should contact the employer as soon as possible.
The organisation supports work-life balance and flexible working where possible, including flexible hours, compressed hours, job sharing, or shorter-hour contracts. These options can be discussed with the hiring manager during the interview.
