Job description
About the role
As a Tesco delivery driver, you’ll be the friendly face customers see at their door. The job is not limited to driving — it also involves delivering helpful, reliable service and making each home delivery a positive experience. The work is varied, practical and active, with each shift likely to be different. You’ll spend much of the day working on your own, while still having support from managers and teammates at the store base when needed.
Working pattern
The availability window for this role is Sunday, Friday and Saturday from 13:00 to 23:00.
There is a guaranteed minimum of 16 hours per week, although 12-hour roles are also available.
Pay
Starting pay is £14.18 per hour, increasing to £15.45 per hour in stores located within the M25. Some locations may also include extra pay.
Key duties
- Keep the van, trays and work area clean, orderly and ready so every customer receives shopping in excellent condition.
- Load the vehicle carefully and complete the necessary checks so it is safe, dependable and prepared for the road.
- Speak clearly and politely with customers about substitutions, changes or short-dated items, and arrange refunds when appropriate.
- Handle every product thoughtfully and protect the quality of each order as though it were your own.
- Deliver orders within the scheduled time slot and provide a warm, professional handover at the customer’s doorstep.
What you need
- Ability to work closely with colleagues and contribute to a positive team atmosphere.
- A friendly, welcoming manner with both customers and co-workers.
- Comfort with change and the ability to react quickly to shifting customer needs while out on the road and in-store.
- A valid UK, EU or EEA driving licence (full or automatic) held for at least 12 months, with no more than 3 penalty points.
Benefits
- Holiday entitlement starting at 20 days plus one personal day, rising to 22 days after 12 months, along with Bank Holidays.
- Flexible working from day one.
- Colleague Clubcard discount of 10%, increasing to 15% on pay-day weekends, plus a second card for sharing with family.
- Access to free wellbeing support for mental, physical and overall wellbeing.
- Life cover equal to five times your pay and a pension plan with matching contributions up to 7.5%.
- A choice of additional benefits such as discounts, share schemes and cycle-to-work schemes.
- Uniform supplied, along with policies that support important life events.
