Role summary

The Assistant, Fencing will support the Fencing Section within the Risk and Asset Management Department at Kansanshi Mining Plc. The role focuses on maintaining the mine lease boundary fence, caring for fencing on company properties outside the main site, assisting with cold burning, creating fire breaks, and clearing bush to support security and asset protection.

Key duties

  • Inspect the mine lease perimeter fence regularly to spot damage, weak points, and security-related concerns.
  • Perform basic repair work, including straightening fence posts, changing wires, and strengthening damaged fence sections.
  • Help maintain fencing on offsite company properties so that security requirements are met.
  • Escalate any fence breaches, vandalism, or unauthorized entry attempts to the Team Leader, Fencing.
  • Support the implementation of corrective actions aimed at preventing repeated incidents.
  • Clear bush along the fence line and nearby areas to improve visibility and reduce security blind spots.
  • Operate or assist with bush-clearing tools and equipment such as brush cutters and slashers when required.
  • Dispose of cleared vegetation in line with environmental and safety rules.
  • Work in accordance with all safety procedures, including proper PPE use and compliance with KMP safety standards.
  • Promptly report hazards, environmental concerns, and workplace incidents.
  • Ensure all tasks align with the company’s risk control and asset protection requirements.
  • Keep the supervisor informed on work progress, blockers, and material needs.
  • Handle, store, and care for tools and equipment responsibly.

Qualifications and experience

Applicants must have a Grade 12 Certificate and at least 2 years of experience in fence installation and maintenance. Experience in cold burning and bush clearing is also required.

Additional requirements

All academic qualifications and results must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
