Job description
About the role
As a Tesco Customer Delivery Driver, you will be the customer-facing representative on the road, delivering shopping directly to people’s homes. The job is not limited to driving; it combines safe vehicle use, helpful customer service, and careful handling of orders to ensure every delivery is completed with a friendly smile.
The work is active, practical, and varied, so each shift can be different. You will spend much of your day working on your own, while still being supported by managers and colleagues based at the store whenever assistance is needed.
Availability window: Sunday 13:00 to 23:00, Monday 19:00 to 23:00, Wednesday 19:00 to 23:00, and Saturday 13:00 to 23:00.
Pay starts at £14.18 per hour, increasing to £15.45 per hour in stores within the M25. Some locations may also include extra payments. A minimum of 16 hours per week is guaranteed, and roles from 12 hours per week may also be available.
Key duties
- Keep the van, trays, and work area clean, orderly, and well arranged so customer orders arrive in excellent condition.
- Load the van safely and complete the necessary checks to confirm it is roadworthy, dependable, and ready for service.
- Speak to customers about substitutions, order changes, and short-dated items in a clear and reassuring manner, and process refunds when required.
- Handle every product carefully and protect the quality of each order as though it were your own.
- Deliver within the promised time slot and provide a warm, natural doorstep service that leaves customers feeling valued.
What you need
- Ability to work well with colleagues and contribute to a positive team environment.
- A friendly, welcoming manner with both customers and coworkers.
- Flexibility to adapt quickly to changing customer needs while working in-store and on the road.
- A valid UK, EU, or EEA driving licence, either full or automatic, held for at least 12 months.
- No more than 3 penalty points on the driving licence.
What’s in it for you
- Holiday entitlement starting at 20 days plus a personal day, increasing to 22 days after 12 months, in addition to bank holidays.
- Flexible working options available from day one.
- 10% discount with the Colleague Clubcard, rising to 15% on payday weekends, plus a second card for family use.
- Access to free wellbeing support for mental, physical, and overall wellbeing.
- Life cover worth five times your pay and an award-winning pension with matched contributions up to 7.5%.
- Access to a choice of benefits, including discounts, share schemes, and cycle-to-work options.
- Uniform provided, along with policies designed to support key life moments.
