About the Role
StockX, a leading marketplace for current culture, is seeking an experienced Category Manager for its Apparel division. This role is central to a new, high-priority commerce initiative focused on expanding apparel culture on the platform through creator-driven commerce experiences. You will be the primary owner of apparel category growth, acting as the in-house expert on fashion and apparel culture, economics, and trends. This position blends deep cultural understanding with strategic planning and hands-on execution, with the potential to grow into a leadership role overseeing a broader portfolio and team.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the strategic growth plan for the apparel category on the platform.
- Oversee and manage category performance, focusing on supply, user engagement, and revenue generation.
- Establish clear quarterly objectives, key performance indicators, and operational cadences.
- Maintain an in-depth and up-to-date understanding of the apparel market, including key influencers, brands, sub-segments, seasonal trends, and resale economics.
- Serve as the internal advocate for the apparel community, providing insights to inform product, marketing, and platform development.
- Develop and manage a robust pipeline of high-impact apparel sellers, creators, designers, and brands.
- Personally recruit and onboard key sellers to establish the platform's tone and credibility.
- Create seller strategies that effectively balance authenticity, storytelling, and commercial objectives.
- Identify and execute apparel-specific commercial moments, campaigns, and content formats to drive engagement and sales.
- Collaborate with the Category Marketing team to develop culturally relevant activations.
- Proactively experiment with new strategies and iterate based on performance data and user feedback.
- Work closely with Account and Partnerships Managers to facilitate seller acquisition and support.
- Partner with Product and Engineering teams to influence the development of essential features and tools for category participants.
- Provide market insights to guide and prioritize the product roadmap.
- Document best practices, frameworks, and learnings to support the expansion into future categories.
- Contribute to defining best-in-class category management standards at StockX.
- Assist in hiring and onboarding new team members as the apparel category team expands.
Requirements
- Possess a deep understanding of the second-hand fashion and apparel culture, including its key players, platforms, trends, and economic dynamics, with existing connections within the ecosystem.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in category management, partnerships, marketplace growth, brand management, or operational roles within the apparel, streetwear, fashion, or related industries.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of outcomes and drive execution, adaptation, and iteration.
- Proven track record as a strong relationship builder with credibility among sellers, creators, designers, and community members.
- Proficient in data analysis and possess strong commercial acumen, with a solid understanding of pricing, margins, liquidity, and incentive structures.
- Exhibit an entrepreneurial spirit, resourcefulness, and enthusiasm for building initiatives from the ground up.
Perks
- Opportunity to shape the perception and success of a new commerce initiative at StockX.
- Influence the cultural direction and go-to-market strategy for future categories.
- Build credibility with the broader apparel community.
- Significant influence on StockX's expansion from a marketplace to a deeper cultural engagement platform.
- Potential for benefits (e.g., medical, dental), equity, and discretionary bonuses.
Eligibility
This role is open to qualified applicants.
