Job description

About the Role

StockX is seeking a dynamic Category Manager to drive the growth and strategic direction of a key category within its global marketplace. This role is crucial for empowering sellers and creators to build sustainable businesses and foster deep community engagement. You will act as the primary strategist, market expert, and operator for your assigned category, identifying opportunities, developing seller pipelines, and nurturing creator relationships from inception to scale. This position requires a blend of strategic foresight, deep market insight, and hands-on execution, with complete accountability for category growth outcomes. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Partnerships, Marketing, Product, and Operations to enhance liquidity, engagement, and monetization within your category.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and implement the strategic vision and growth roadmap for your designated category on the StockX platform.
  • Become an in-depth expert on the category's supply dynamics, consumer demand patterns, community engagement channels, and competitive landscape.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and set quarterly objectives to monitor and advance category performance.
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of sellers, creators, influencers, and retail partners within your category.
  • Execute proactive outreach, onboarding, and enablement programs for high-potential sellers.
  • Foster and nurture enduring relationships with key sellers and influential community figures.
  • Partner with Account and Partnerships Managers to effectively scale seller engagement and support initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Category Marketing Managers to design and execute impactful product launches, promotional events, and marketing campaigns.
  • Serve as the voice of the category, communicating its needs and insights to Product and Engineering teams to drive improvements in seller tools, platform features, and overall performance.
  • Leverage data analytics to identify growth opportunities, pinpoint operational bottlenecks, and refine go-to-market strategies.
  • Monitor trends in supply, user engagement, retention, and revenue, adapting strategies dynamically to optimize results.
  • Present actionable insights and performance reports to Growth leadership and relevant stakeholders.
  • Act as the official representative of StockX within the ecosystem of your category.
  • Engage deeply with the nuances of community culture, subcultures, and trends that influence engagement and purchasing behavior.
  • Champion the needs and perspectives of creators and sellers internally to ensure authentic, category-driven growth.

About You

  • Possess 5+ years of experience in business development, partnerships, category management, or marketplace growth roles, preferably within consumer platforms or two-sided marketplaces.
  • Demonstrate strong strategic thinking capabilities coupled with a hands-on, execution-oriented approach, comfortable navigating ambiguity and fast-paced environments.
  • Exhibit excellent relationship-building skills, capable of establishing trust quickly with sellers, creators, and internal teams.
  • Be data-fluent, making informed decisions based on data analysis and focusing on measurable outcomes.
  • Possess a community-centric mindset, understanding cultural nuances, category subcultures, and the trends that drive engagement.

Nice to Have

  • Existing professional network within the specific category (e.g., sneaker resellers, influencer communities, boutique shops).
  • Prior experience working on both the supply and demand sides of a marketplace.
  • Familiarity with creator monetization platforms, community-driven commerce models, or enthusiast-focused ecosystems.
  • Proficiency with CRM tools, sales pipeline management, analytics dashboards, and seller performance metrics.

Why This Role Matters

As one of the initial Category Managers for this new commerce initiative, you will play a pivotal role in:

  • Establishing the foundational playbook for scaling categories on an emerging platform.
  • Defining how StockX engages with sellers, creators, and communities at scale.
  • Building the groundwork for a scalable, category-focused Go-To-Market and Growth engine that can expand into new verticals.

This role offers a unique blend of strategic responsibility and entrepreneurial spirit, providing significant ownership and the opportunity to influence the direction of a high-potential new product. StockX is committed to fair hiring practices, considering all qualified applicants, including those with arrest and conviction records, in accordance with local regulations such as the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance and the Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance. The base salary range for this position in Colorado is $120,000 to $130,000, in addition to benefits and potential bonuses. Compensation may vary in other locations.
