Job description
About the organisation
NHS 24 is Scotland’s national tele-health and tele-care service, providing health advice and information by phone and online around the clock, every day of the year. The service supports the people of Scotland with triage, guidance, referrals and information about health and care services.
The organisation operates from five regional centres: Aberdeen, Dundee, South Queensferry, Cardonald and Clydebank. Hybrid working is supported, and this role may be based at any of those centres. The chosen candidate must be able to travel to a regional centre when needed and may also be asked to travel between centres for meetings, training or other work activities.
Role overview
This Business Analyst position is suited to someone who wants to use analytical thinking to improve services that have a direct public impact. The role focuses on understanding business needs and converting them into practical technology-enabled solutions that help deliver safe, efficient and high-quality services.
You will work with a broad mix of stakeholders and help shape systems and processes that support services used by thousands of people each day. The position offers the chance to contribute in a mission-led environment where your analysis and collaboration will support important healthcare delivery across Scotland.
Key responsibilities
- Partner with teams across the organisation to understand requirements and identify areas where services or processes can be improved.
- Collect, analyse and document business needs in a clear, structured way.
- Help define and shape systems and processes that support organisational objectives.
- Assess the effect of change on people, workflows and technology.
- Create strong documentation such as requirement specifications and process models.
- Work with stakeholders, suppliers and partner organisations to develop effective solutions.
- Support business cases, procurement work and assessment of proposed products or services.
- Make sure solutions fit the organisation’s strategy, standards and long-term service requirements.
Candidate profile
The ideal applicant will bring substantial business analysis experience, especially in capturing requirements, carrying out analysis and producing documentation. You should also have specialist knowledge of structured IT design methods and notations such as UML, along with experience in data modelling, process design, functional specification writing and high-level design.
Experience with vendor management, procurement and evaluating packages or products is important, as is strong capability in planning resources, managing risks and issues, and reporting on progress. Experience in a contact centre, customer service centre or healthcare setting as a business analyst would be valuable.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, along with the ability to negotiate, facilitate and influence others effectively. A degree or equivalent qualification is expected, supported by specialist training in business analysis, data modelling, requirements analysis, business planning or procurement.
Benefits and terms
This is a permanent Band 6 post with a salary of £43,231 to £52,679 per year, pro rata where applicable. Placement on the salary scale depends on confirmation of previous relevant NHS service.
As an NHS Scotland employee, you will also have access to a range of benefits and support, including an employee assistance programme, cycle to work scheme, bursary scheme, and learning and development opportunities.
Additional benefits include 35 days of annual leave, increasing to 41 days pro-rata, development options such as study bursaries, e-learning and classroom-based learning, enhanced pay for public holiday working, entry to the Scottish Public Pensions Agency pension scheme, NHS discounts on goods and services, and employee support through HELP.
Equal opportunity and right-to-work information
The organisation is committed to inclusion, equal opportunities and anti-racism. Applications are particularly welcomed from groups underrepresented in the workforce, and disabled applicants who meet the minimum essential criteria are guaranteed an interview under the Disability Confident Leader Scheme.
To work in the United Kingdom, you must already have the correct permission to work. The organisation does not hold a licence to sponsor work visas, so applicants must have the right to work in the UK without sponsorship before applying.
