Role overview

BitPay is hiring a motivated AML Officer to strengthen its Financial Crimes Compliance (FCC) function. This position is central to the ongoing expansion of the company’s financial crimes compliance framework and will help keep operations aligned with expectations in the crypto sector.

In this leadership role, you will guide the day-to-day work of the FCC team while partnering with the Chief Compliance Officer, regulators, outside partners, and teams across the business. The role calls for strong cross-functional coordination and a compliance-first mindset that supports growth in a fast-changing industry.

Key responsibilities

  • Stay current on AML and sanctions requirements across the United States, Canada, and the European Union.
  • Create, update, and maintain FCC policies, procedures, and operating manuals with input from relevant stakeholders.
  • Run daily FCC operations, including system oversight, KPI tracking, SLA monitoring, and review of escalations.
  • Ensure quality across FCC activities such as SAR filings, watchlist screening, KYC reviews, and enhanced due diligence reviews.
  • Support testing and fine-tuning of compliance systems and controls.
  • Contribute to model validation activities in line with NYDFS Part 504 expectations.
  • Prepare reports and help leadership with ongoing compliance reporting needs.
  • Explain FCC requirements to partners across the organization and encourage effective collaboration.
  • Assist with AML and sanctions risk assessments.
  • Build and deliver training for employees on relevant laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Support regulatory examinations, audits, and information requests, including response coordination and remediation follow-through.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in financial crimes compliance operations, with exposure to KYC, sanctions, and AML investigations.
  • Proven leadership experience managing operational workflows, compliance initiatives, stakeholders, and process improvements.
  • Prior experience with NYDFS Part 504 requirements is preferred.
  • Experience handling regulatory reviews, external audits, and remediation work.
  • Practical experience using third-party compliance platforms such as blockchain monitoring tools and AML case management systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Sound judgment and integrity when dealing with compliance-sensitive matters.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving ability for complex compliance situations.
  • Self-starter who can take ownership in a fast-moving environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality execution.
  • Collaborative approach with a focus on team success.
  • Crypto industry experience is mandatory.
  • Comfort using Google Suite tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Professional compliance certifications such as CAMS, CGSS, or CFE are required.
