Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Public Health Adviser for our Evaluation Team within the Population Health and Wellbeing Directorate. This permanent role contributes to diverse evaluation programs that address public health needs and policy initiatives, such as the National Mission to reduce drug deaths, minimum unit pricing of alcohol, and Mental Health Strategy, as well as targeted local evaluation projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, plan, and implement monitoring and evaluation strategies across various public health topics.
• Engage with stakeholders to ensure evaluation activities meet their requirements and foster shared learning.
• Report progress, risk factors, and mitigation plans to Scottish Government funders.
• Collaborate with colleagues internally and externally, including individuals with lived experience, statutory bodies, and third sector organizations, to achieve strategic evaluation goals.

Candidate Profile

• Proven experience developing and executing robust mixed-method evaluation plans.
• Ability to interpret quantitative and qualitative data within evaluation contexts.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and strong writing capabilities.
• Knowledge of Scotland's public health priorities and policies is advantageous.

Working Conditions

This position is based in either Gyle Square, Edinburgh or Bothwell Street, Glasgow, with hybrid working arrangements involving office and home-based work. Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 36 hours weekly, with flexibility for alternative working patterns. During public health emergencies, working across seven days including weekends may be required temporarily. UK residency within the employment location is mandatory.
