Job description

About the Role

Are you curious about pursuing a career in engineering consultancy? At Aurecon, we nurture innovative, determined problem solvers who transform complex challenges into clear solutions. Our 12-week paid summer internship program offers hands-on involvement in both technical and advisory projects, structured professional growth, and mentorship from business experts. Interns actively contribute to meaningful projects within a premier engineering consultancy.

We seek students currently studying Civil Engineering eager to expand their knowledge and explore consultancy roles. Positions are offered throughout New Zealand, including Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. Our programs cover teams such as Land & Water and Transport, contributing to resilient communities and sustainable infrastructure.

What You Will Do

  • Engage in actual project work solving technical challenges.
  • Gain experience within either the Land & Water team, focusing on water infrastructure, stormwater, and flood resilience, or the Transport team working on roads, highways, public transit, and pedestrian/cycling networks.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across the Asia Pacific region.
  • Expand your professional network through Limelight, our community for early careers.
  • Receive mentorship from seasoned industry leaders and technical experts.
  • Explore potential pathways into our Graduate Program.

Support for Your Development

The internship is structured to enhance your technical skills, consulting confidence, and career insight. You will receive continuous guidance from your team leader, an assigned buddy, and the early careers team. Participate in our Intern Learning and Leadership Series to develop professional capabilities, increase your network, and comprehend the delivery of complex projects across teams.

Recognized as one of New Zealand’s Top 100 Graduate Employers for 2026, Aurecon is proud to hold Gender Tick accreditation and partners with the Pride Pledge. We foster an inclusive workplace where interns engage in meaningful work, grow professionally, and thrive.

Candidate Profile

  • Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering or related program, ideally in your penultimate year.
  • A strong interest in either:
    • Land & Water, focusing on water infrastructure, stormwater control, and flood resilience that support sustainable communities.
    • Transport, including roads, highways, public transportation, and networks for walking and cycling connecting people and places.
  • Availability for 12 weeks full-time from mid-November 2026 to February 2027, accommodating a two-week holiday break over Christmas and New Year.
  • Possess inquisitiveness, effective communication skills, and a collaborative approach.
