Overview
This role is based at HM Prison Risley located in Warrington, England. It offers a unique catering opportunity where you apply your culinary skills in an industrial kitchen setting within a prison environment while contributing to offender rehabilitation.
Key Responsibilities
As a member of the catering team, you will supervise offenders preparing nutritious meals for the prison population, help them gain new skills, and support their progress toward qualifications that improve their employment prospects on release.
Working Hours and Compensation
You will work a 37-hour week with shift patterns covering hours beyond 7am to 7pm on weekdays, including weekends and bank holidays. A 20% unsocial hours payment supplements your base salary. Part-time and job share options may be available depending on operational requirements, though full shift coverage remains necessary. Starting pay is at the minimum salary band.
Salary Details
- Band 3 minimum salary including 20% unsocial hours allowance: £34,928
- Band 3 maximum salary including 20% unsocial hours allowance: £36,778
Qualifications and Experience
- Level 2 Certificate in Food Production within Hospitality and Catering or equivalent
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate
- Familiarity with current kitchen health, safety, and hygiene regulations
- Proven competence in an industrial kitchen environment
- Confidence in English communication
- Willingness to pursue Level 3 Vocational Qualification within an agreed timeframe
Food safety refresher training (HACCP) is expected every three years.

This position is primarily open to UK nationals, Republic of Ireland nationals, Commonwealth nationals with UK work rights, EU/EEA nationals with settled or pre-settled status, and certain other eligible groups.
