About the unit

UNV Field Units are responsible for bringing UN Volunteer placements to UN agencies, funds, programmes, and other partners working on peace, development, and humanitarian priorities. They serve as the local face of UNV, helping connect the organization with governments, UN bodies, civil society, and private-sector stakeholders.

Tiered application eligibility

This vacancy follows UNDP/UNCDF/UNV’s tiered hiring approach. Applicants must check the tier stated in the vacancy title, if any, and confirm they are eligible under that tier. This opening is announced for Tier 0, Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 candidates.

  • Tier 1: Other UNDP/UNCDF/UNV staff on permanent or fixed-term contracts.
  • Tier 2: UNDP/UNCDF/UNV staff on temporary appointments, regular PSA personnel, and Expert or Specialist UN Volunteers.
  • Tier 3 or no tier shown: All other contract types from UNDP/UNCDF/UNV and other agencies, plus external candidates.

  • Translate regional mobilization priorities into country-specific recommendations using analysis and local context.
  • Contribute to the design of thematic volunteer solutions, pilot ideas, and joint approaches that respond to national and UN priorities.
  • Work with the Field Security Officer and host entities to ensure volunteers understand and comply with security requirements and risk-mitigation measures.
  • Help ensure medical evacuation support is delivered quickly and in line with procedures, coordinating with providers, host entities, and UNV offices.
  • Monitor volunteer well-being and performance through regular contact, field visits, and engagement with supervisors and counterparts.
  • Provide timely support across the full volunteer journey in coordination with the relevant teams.
  • Plan and manage the Field Unit annual workplan, performance indicators, operational support funds, and budget reporting.
  • Support the effective functioning of the UNV country presence and foster a collaborative, professional, and learning-oriented work environment.
