About the Role

The Wildlife and Threatened Species Operations branch oversees a state-wide initiative to safeguard, conserve, and sustainably manage Queensland's protected wildlife. This is achieved through the development and review of policies and legislation, educational programs, community involvement, partnerships, compliance enforcement, and operational service delivery.

The Manager for Southern Wildlife Operations will lead and guide a geographically dispersed team, focusing on the sustainable management of protected wildlife using engagement and regulatory strategies. The incumbent will provide strategic and operational direction to the Southern Wildlife Operations team, offer expert advice to the Director of Southern Wildlife and Koala Operations, and ensure timely delivery of projects aligned with departmental priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and management to a geographically scattered team to advance sustainable protected wildlife management.
  • Implement programs and achieve targets consistent with state wildlife management priorities.
  • Identify emerging challenges within policy, legislation, and operations, contributing to strategic and tactical planning for the branch.

  • Offer strategic, high-level advice on policy, legislation, and operations through preparation of submissions, briefings, and correspondence often under tight deadlines.
