About the Role
The Principal Advisor Publishing will serve as a key strategic consultant to the Manager Judicial Libraries, judiciary, and senior stakeholders concerning the publication of Court and tribunal rulings. This position lies at the confluence of legal expertise, publishing, and public administration, ensuring decisions are released with accuracy, consistency, and full compliance with judicial and legal mandates, thereby promoting public access to justice and trust in New Zealand's judiciary.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be recognized as a specialist in managing sensitive, complex, and high-profile publication challenges, providing counsel on legal, operational, and reputational issues. Responsibilities include shaping policies, guidelines, and procedures governing judgment publications, leveraging data-driven insights to spot innovation opportunities and improvements, leading strategic projects, and enhancing publishing systems and services.
The role also involves fostering robust relationships with judiciary members, judicial staff, and Ministry personnel; offering expert editorial advice; mentoring publishing teams; and ensuring practices adapt effectively to legislative changes, emerging risks, and evolving standards.
Qualifications and Skills
Applicants must hold a law degree from New Zealand and possess extensive experience dealing with legal information. They should demonstrate capability in interpreting and applying intricate legislation, court rules, and judicial directives. Strong advisory skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts simply are essential.
Additional desired attributes include analytical and problem-solving skills, sound judgment informed by data analysis, experience developing policy and operational frameworks, mentoring skills, and ability to perform well in dynamic, priority-driven environments. Salary Range
The salary band for this position is from $112,766 to $145,388 annually, dependent upon the applicant’s qualifications and experience.
