Job description
Role Summary
The Operation and Process Manager oversees the daily operation and process performance of the water treatment plant to guarantee safe, efficient, and compliant functioning aligned with contractual and environmental standards.
Primary Duties
- Supervise all operational aspects of treatment units including inlet works, biological treatment, clarification, filtration, disinfection, sludge processing, and TSE systems.
- Maintain continuous availability of the plant, assure steady process performance, and fulfill design plus contractual obligations.
- Monitor critical process parameters along with TSE and beneficial sludge quality indicators.
- Evaluate operational and laboratory data to detect deviations, implementing corrective and preventive measures accordingly.
- Optimize use of aeration, chemical dosing, sludge wasting procedures, disinfection methods, and overall energy consumption for improved process efficiency.
- Collaborate with operational, laboratory, maintenance, Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE), and reporting teams to ensure seamless plant functionality.
- Examine daily logs, shift summaries, lab outcomes, and monthly report performance.
- Assist with plant performance tests, reliability checks, capacity evaluations, and compliance verifications.
- Manage sludge and by-product handling including production monitoring, dewatering, drying, storage, and coordinating disposal activities.
- Ensure adherence to environmental regulations, TSE standards, HSE protocols, and internal operating procedures.
- Lead and provide guidance to the process engineer and plant operators.
- Compile technical documentation, process trend analyses, root cause investigations, non-compliance explanations, and strategize improvements.
- Maintain professional communications with clients and internal management as required.
Qualifications and Experience Needed
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Chemical, Civil, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
- A minimum of 8 to 10 years’ experience operating wastewater treatment facilities.
- At least 3 to 5 years in senior roles within operations, process management, or managerial positions.
- Extensive background in municipal wastewater treatment, ideally involving large-scale projects.
- Familiarity with Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and Operation and Maintenance (O&M) contractual frameworks is advantageous.
Required Skills and Competencies
- In-depth understanding of wastewater processes including biological treatment, disinfection, and sludge management.
- Competent in interpreting process and laboratory data, KPIs, and operational trends.
- Knowledge on SCADA systems, performance monitoring, reporting and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent leadership, coordination, communication, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Capable of managing pressure, dealing with operational challenges, emergencies, and performance assessments.
