Role overview
This position is for a Lead Planning Engineer to support EPC work in the oil and gas sector, with exposure across both offshore and onshore activities in Doha, Qatar.
Core responsibilities
- Create, update, and track fully integrated project schedules in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
- Build detailed work breakdown structures, project baselines, key milestones, and schedules that are loaded with resources.
- Follow project performance closely, spot timeline slippages, and put recovery actions in place to protect milestone delivery.
- Coordinate planning inputs across engineering, procurement, fabrication, offshore installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and final handover.
- Carry out critical path analysis, improve schedule logic, and plan resources effectively.
- Prepare weekly and monthly planning outputs, including S-curves, manpower histograms, cash flow projections, and earned value reports.
- Provide schedule risk reviews and recommend mitigation measures to project leadership.
- Liaise with engineering disciplines, subcontractors, clients, and vendors to keep all schedules aligned.
- Support offshore execution work such as installation campaigns, heavy lifts, marine operations, hook-up activities, shutdown planning, and commissioning.
- Track project KPIs and confirm that contractual scheduling obligations are met.
- Take part in progress meetings with clients and management, presenting status updates and corrective actions.
- Work in line with company planning procedures, project controls standards, and reporting expectations.
Experience required
The role calls for at least 15 years of planning and project controls experience in EPC or oil and gas projects, including a minimum of 5 years in offshore project environments. Practical exposure is expected in offshore platform, barge, and Christmas Tree installation projects, along with major EPC execution covering fabrication, offshore installation, hook-up, commissioning, and project close-out.
Skills and knowledge
The ideal candidate should be highly proficient in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project, and have a strong grasp of WBS, CPM, resource loading, schedule optimization, project controls, progress measurement systems, earned value management, cash flow forecasting, and S-curve analysis. The role also requires solid knowledge of offshore construction methods, marine operations, heavy lifting, platform installation, barge operations, hook-up, commissioning, shutdown planning, SIMOPS, HSE requirements, PTW systems, and project risk management. Strong coordination, communication, analytical, and leadership abilities are essential, along with familiarity with international EPC standards and offshore execution practices.
Qualification
A bachelor’s degree in engineering is required, preferably in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or an equivalent discipline. PMP and/or PMI-SP certification is preferred.
