Information Technologist

About the Role

School District No. 43 (Coquitlam), the third largest school district in British Columbia with over 34,000 students and 4,400 staff, is seeking a dedicated permanent full-time ICT Information Technologist. Located roughly 40 minutes from downtown Vancouver, the district offers a dynamic information services department with opportunities for career growth into senior and management roles.

Responsibilities

• Deliver on-site technical assistance and training to educational and administrative personnel, handling installation, configuration, diagnosis, and resolving hardware and software issues.
• Participate on technology steering committees, offering recommendations for software and hardware improvements.
• Provide support and programming for diverse applications such as office suites, electronic messaging, networking systems, operating systems, databases, student information systems, library and financial software.
• Operate, maintain, and verify network systems in alignment with district standards, including routine data backup and restoration when needed.
• Contribute to planning, prioritizing, and executing departmental goals for current and new projects.
• Create and update specialized computer programs and both technical and user documentation.
• Engage in continuous professional development to maintain relevant certifications and stay abreast of evolving technology trends applicable to the school district’s information systems.

Qualifications

• A two-year diploma in computer systems from a recognized Canadian public college paired with a minimum of two years recent relevant work experience.
• Diplomas or degrees must be from Canadian public institutions or have equivalency confirmed through BCIT evaluations; if from other institutions, applicants must provide documentation proving equivalency or indicate that an evaluation is pending.
• Alternatively, at least two years of directly related recent experience accompanied by a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineering (MCSE) certification, which should be current or no older than the previous version; applicants with older certifications must update to current within six months. Equivalents certifications may also be accepted.
• A valid British Columbia Class 5 driver's license.

Additional Information

This is a unionized role offering an hourly wage of $37.87 based on a standard 40-hour workweek. Benefits include extended health and dental coverage, Medical Services Plan (MSP), and membership in the Municipal Pension Plan (MPP).
