Position Overview

We are expanding rapidly as an international firm focused on constructing and operating data centers. Our objective is to create state-of-the-art IT infrastructure enabling businesses to thrive in the digital era. Ethiopia is a vital market in our expansion strategy in Africa. We seek an experienced and entrepreneurial General Manager to lead the establishment and management of our presence in Ethiopia. This role encompasses market entry, construction oversight, government relations, and driving business growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement medium and long-term strategic plans to achieve operational success and business expansion in the Ethiopian market.
• Analyze local and international market trends, competitive landscapes, and customer requirements to formulate effective business strategies.
• Maintain technological leadership while increasing market share in the region.
• Foster and sustain strong client relationships to ensure high satisfaction, renew contracts, and attract new business opportunities.
• Establish strategic alliances with cloud providers, large enterprises, and government entities.
• Build and nurture relationships with government officials, regulatory bodies, and local authorities to obtain necessary permits and maintain compliance.
• Represent the company in governmental discussions, meetings, and negotiations.
• Continuously monitor Ethiopian regulatory changes related to data center infrastructure and IT operations to adapt business approaches proactively.
• Oversee all phases of data center projects including feasibility assessments, planning, design, construction, and commissioning, ensuring adherence to industry standards such as Uptime Tier certifications and ISO compliance.
• Supervise ongoing data center operations and maintenance to ensure optimal efficiency, reliability, and security.
• Provide regular progress updates and contingency plans to headquarters addressing project delays or challenges.
• Create and manage the annual budget forecasting construction costs, operating expenses, and revenues.
• Ensure efficient resource allocation promoting financial sustainability and growth in Ethiopia.
• Implement quality assurance measures to meet high operational standards and client expectations.
• Build and lead a motivated, accountable management team focused on performance and excellence.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, IT, Engineering (including Electrical Engineering), Business Administration, or related fields.
• An MBA or equivalent management qualification is highly preferred.
• Minimum of 8 to 10 years in management roles within data centers, cloud computing, IT infrastructure, or similar sectors, including at least 5 years in senior leadership positions such as General Manager, Operations Director, or Project Director.
• Comprehensive experience with full data center project lifecycle management, familiarity with standards like Uptime Tier, ISO 27001, and techniques like Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) optimization.
• Experience operating in emerging markets, particularly in Africa, is a significant advantage.
• Strong understanding of data center industry trends and associated technologies including power systems, cooling, and network architectures.
• Knowledge of cloud computing, hybrid IT infrastructures, storage solutions, and edge computing in relation to data center operations.
• Proven capability to manage capital-intensive projects ensuring favorable Return on Investment.
• Background or exposure to the cryptocurrency sector is desirable.
• Preference for candidates with established connections to Ethiopian government authorities.
