About the Role
This permanent full-time position, starting Term 3 of 2026, is based at Canning Vale College located in the Greater Perth Area. The college is a large, modern secondary school serving students from Years 7 to 12, offering diverse subjects and facilities aimed at high academic achievement.
The Gardener - Handyperson will maintain and enhance the school's outdoor environment by keeping grounds safe, neat, and conducive to learning. Responsibilities include caring for turf, garden beds, shrubs, trees, and other soft landscapes, as well as maintaining hard surfaces such as courts and pathways. The role also involves marking sports fields and undertaking minor repairs following department policies.
Responsibilities
- Maintain school grounds including turf, garden beds, shrubs, trees, and landscaping.
- Uphold hard landscaping features such as courts and paving in good condition.
- Mark sports areas appropriately.
- Conduct minor repair tasks in line with organizational standards.
- Ensure gardening equipment, tools, and machinery are clean, well-maintained, and report any faults promptly.
- Collaborate with corporate services management to develop safe work procedures and undertake necessary risk assessments.
- Adhere strictly to Occupational Safety and Health legislation and manage hazardous substances, keeping proper records.
Requirements
- Must obtain and maintain a valid Working With Children Check.
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number before commencement.
- Hold Australian or New Zealand citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid visa with relevant work rights for the appointment duration.
