About the Role

This opportunity involves working as a Security Architect within the Ministry of Justice in Wellington, New Zealand, reporting to the Team Lead of Architecture and Engineering in the combined network and cybersecurity practice. The role is a specialist position focused on security architecture and information security domains relevant to the Ministry's ICT solutions.

Role Responsibilities

The Security Architect will contribute to creating and maintaining the current and future security architectures for Ministry ICT systems, ensuring these align with the Ministry’s strategic goals, business needs, and comply with government and industry standards. The incumbent will engage with solutions from their initial conception and maintain involvement throughout project lifecycles to ensure they support Justice’s strategic direction. Additionally, the role involves conducting retrospective security evaluations and continuous assessment of solution security throughout their lifecycle.

Qualifications and Experience

While no candidate is expected to meet every requirement exactly, successful applicants typically have extensive ICT experience covering diverse domains including security technology. Key qualifications include over 20 years of broad ICT experience, skilled in developing and implementing ICT security strategies and architectures within large organizations, and comprehensive understanding of cybersecurity frameworks such as NZISM.

Expertise in designing and specifying security solutions is required, along with the ability to interact effectively at multiple government levels. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities are important, as is the capacity to foster trust and credibility among managers, employees, vendors, and stakeholders. Candidates must demonstrate leadership capabilities, particularly in influencing outcomes without direct reporting authority, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to navigate complex issues with broad ICT, business, and systems knowledge.

Salary

The annual salary range offered for this position is $154,510 to $212,790, depending upon the applicant’s competencies and experience.
