Internal Control Officer

Job Summary

The Internal Control Officer is responsible for evaluating the framework and execution of internal controls, conducting thorough reviews, and advising management on improving control environments to reduce risk exposure. This role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to identify deficiencies in controls and foster a culture centered on accountability and integrity.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Assess the design and effectiveness of internal controls such as segregation of duties, access restrictions, and authorization processes.
• Carry out reviews and testing to verify the accuracy and dependability of financial and operational data.
• Prepare detailed audit reports documenting findings, observations, and suggestions, then communicate outcomes to management and relevant departments.
• Work with departmental managers and process owners to correct control weaknesses by implementing appropriate actions.
• Oversee and follow up on remediation plans targeting audit issues and control gaps.
• Deliver training and guidance on internal control policies, principles, and procedures to employees.
• Investigate potential fraud, misconduct, or irregularities and recommend suitable actions and preventive strategies.

Educational Qualification and Work Experience

• A Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc. or HND) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or Banking & Finance.
• Possession of ACA certification is an added advantage.
• At least 4 years of relevant professional experience.
