Role Overview
The Calibration Technician will conduct accredited calibration activities within Transcat's ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited calibration lab and at client sites. This involves calibrating, adjusting, verifying, troubleshooting, and documenting a wide variety of measuring and test instruments following strict documented procedures, quality standards, and customer requirements. The role demands accuracy, safety, traceability, and compliance within a regulated environment, alongside excellent problem-solving abilities and dedication to customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute accredited calibration, verification, adjustment, and troubleshooting on diverse measuring and testing equipment at the lab and on customer locations according to company and client protocols.
- Operate and prepare calibration standards and related equipment ensuring reliable and traceable measurement outcomes.
- Accurately complete calibration documentation including certificates and records as per quality management system requirements.
- Review calibration outcomes identifying any equipment out of specification and escalate technical or quality issues appropriately.
- Properly manage calibration standards, reference tools, and assets, ensuring correct handling, storage, and maintenance procedures.
- Perform on-site calibration while adhering to professional standards, client safety policies, and delivering excellent customer service.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe laboratory and work environment compliant with company health and safety policies.
- Participate in investigations related to calibration discrepancies, equipment malfunctions, and non-conformance cases.
- Collaborate with laboratory and operational teams to fulfill customer deadlines and business goals.
- Identify and support continuous improvement opportunities to enhance calibration processes, methods, efficiency, and customer experience.
- Maintain and develop technical skills across various calibration sectors through ongoing training.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Experience and Skills Required
- Experience in calibration, metrology, laboratory, engineering, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, medical device, or similarly regulated technical environments is preferred.
- Previous calibration or testing across one or more measurement disciplines is advantageous.
- Level 6 or higher qualification in Engineering, Instrumentation, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related technical field is desirable; equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
- Strong understanding of measurement principles, traceability, accuracy, and quality standards within technical settings.
- High attention to detail with the ability to interpret technical documents, procedures, and specifications accurately.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize workload and consistently meet customer requirements.
- Effective analytical and problem-solving capabilities to investigate and resolve technical challenges within set procedures.
- Proficient with Microsoft Windows and Office; familiarity with calibration management or laboratory information systems is a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for positive teamwork and customer interaction.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within teams.
- Possession of a valid clean driving license with willingness to travel across Ireland as needed.
- A proactive learner committed to professional growth and acquiring expertise in multiple calibration fields.
