Role Overview (Full Availability Required)
The Bakery Lead is accountable for supervising bakery operations, ensuring adherence to company policies and product quality standards. This role focuses on efficient production, inventory management, and operational excellence without direct supervisory responsibilities over other team members. Maintaining a valid ServSafe Food Safety Certification, which BJ’s supports financially, is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all bakery operations to maintain production standards and food quality.
- Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure product availability and avoid stock-outs.
- Demonstrate full operational knowledge including baking, preparation, and merchandising consistent with company standards.
- Ensure accurate pricing and labeling of all bakery items according to policy.
- Analyze sales, waste, and shrinkage data to identify improvement areas and reduce costs.
- Comply with all sanitation and safety regulations, including cold chain procedures and proper equipment maintenance.
- Report any operational issues such as equipment failures, stock shortages, or food safety risks promptly.
- Implement FIFO (First In, First Out) inventory rotation to minimize waste and maintain freshness.
- Perform regular quality and expiration date checks, removing outdated or damaged items.
- Execute seasonal promotions and merchandising initiatives as directed.
- Support club-wide activities including inventory audits, shrink control, and performance tracking.
- Conduct daily inspections of bakery display cases and refrigerators to ensure standards compliance.
- Assist in receiving and inspecting bakery product shipments for accuracy.
- Assist in inventory audits and help maintain accurate records to reduce shrinkage.
- Maintain product quality by monitoring freshness through routine checks.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support other departments.
- Maintain consistent, full attendance to support uninterrupted bakery operations and club leadership.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years’ experience in bakery operations, retail, or food production.
- Strong understanding of bakery production and food safety practices.
- Ability to analyze metrics and implement efficiencies.
- Detail-focused with excellent organizational capabilities.
- Basic proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
- Must be age 18 or older and maintain necessary certifications and training.
Work Environment
- Frequent standing and walking on hard floors.
- Regular lifting up to 30 pounds; occasional heavier lifts with assistance.
- Exposure to varying temperatures from ovens, freezers, and refrigerators.
- Possible contact with cleaning chemicals and bakery allergens.
Compensation
This position starts at an hourly wage of $18.50, with actual pay varying based on factors such as location, experience, and qualifications.
